Default So my car got repossessed last night

I got home from the meet last night and my car is gone. The cops are called to report it stolen, but they tell it they have it reported as being repossessed. I am very impressed becuase I paid my car payment 5 days previous and it went through according to my online statement. I talked to GNCU this morning and they had no idea why it had been repossessed due to my perfect history. Through the cops I learned the number of the repo place, and then the truth is revealed. They repod BRIAN'S Car. Thanks Brian. It's cool though, I got it back and a free tank of gas and all this paperwork saying it was their fault. It was a fun morning.

Oh geez.

Hopefully they towed it with all four wheels off the ground

The guy was cool and they have this crazy tow things that makes it so no wheels are on the ground while they tow. I guess the bank that Brian used never called the repo place to tell them that Brian paid it off. So it was still on their list of cars to get.

HOLY CRAP!!!! This is the WTF thread of the year.

Sorry Pete, I don't know what to say. Chase Auto Finance FTL! Hell, they even sent me the pink slip for it, so I know it is officially paid off from my end.

I am on the phone with Chase Auto. I want to make sure that this crap doesn't happen again to someone else.

So if they thought the car was still Brian's, how did they know to come to your place to get it?

Repo guys are crafty. I was reading some stuff about repo guys, and if they can't find the car at your home address, they start scouting out different areas. Local relatives, work, friends, etc. We might have even had a repo guy at one of our meets without even knowing it.

I'm not sure how this would not technically be grand theft auto for the repo company. I guess they get away with a lot of crap. Not sure I would be so understanding.

Or my ex. - damn she tears people a new asshole if they screw up like that. One time Jiffy Lube didn't tighten the drainplug enough (I was in France at the time), and she got stranded with an empty oilpan on the way to a Barney concert with the kids and their friends (no joke). Anyway she raised hell and we ended up with a big check for compensation.

That sounds like the reason Pete's getting free gas and a "we're sooo sorry" letter. 'Cause he can probably stick it to 'em for a lot more if he wants to.

But as I've learned, it's probably best just to take the path of least resistance and move on with life. Going after someone if you're not really hurt by their actions is probably more trouble than it's worth. Hell, going after someone that *has* F'd you over is almost more trouble than it's worth 'cause the legal system in this country is out of control complicated. Justice is expensive.

They were actually looking for a different PSM STI, and they spotted mine. Then they ran the stuff and figured out it was Brian's. It was actually Chase's fault, not the repo company. Going after a HUGE nationwide company is in no way worth it for the slight inconvenience I had this morning. They don't brush stuff off anymore. They would of spent thousands of dollars to make sure I didn't get the $100 of my time that was wasted. It's too bad thats how things work now a days.

So every psm sti they see, they walk up into the driveway, shine a flashlight in the front windshield and run the vin? what a bunch of douche bags. Wasn't there a series on TV called Repo Man? I think I remember watching it and most time they would tell the person "were taking your shit, get your clothes out of the trunk".

So if somebody hires me to steal a car then I am in the clear - only the person/company who comissions the theft (not me) has broken the law and/or is liable? I don't think so, even if they assured me that they were just stealing the car back.

But still... see Scott's comments above.

Oh, and BTW - Chase sucks for many other reasons that I won't rant about here.

Repo guys get special treatment because they work for banks, and banks are just better people than us citizens.

In the case of a repo... it's the bank's car. If I let you borrow my car, then send someone to steal it back for me 'cause you stopped paying to use it, I'm pretty sure I and the guy stealing the car are in the clear.

The problem here is that the car was no longer the banks, so it was in fact theft, but the repo guys also filed w/ the PD before stealing it so I would imagine since they were acting in good faith with the law, it'd be pretty tough to get them rung up on GTA.

QFT. They quoted the wrong payoff to Golden 1 on Dave's car and it took me more than month to get the loan pushed through with more money out of my pocket. I finally got it registered in my name last week......heh.

they actually are private contractors that the banks hire to locate vehicles. We have a really good friend in sac that is a repo guy. He has the greatest adventures. His stories are comparable to cop stories.
