SONOMA, Calif. — World-class open-wheel racing will return to the Sonoma Valley for the first time in 35 years in 2005 as Infineon Raceway will host the IRL IndyCar® Series, it was announced today by raceway officials.

Infineon Raceway will be part of history as this will mark the first-ever road-course event since the inception of the IRL IndyCar Series® in 1996. The IRL will feature two road courses in 2005, the other being Watkins Glen (N.Y.).

Sweet. We definitely need to go next year.

But, lets see... Infineon + Watkins Glen + a whole bunch of ovals ... why does that sound familiar?

Yeah.. IRL is NASCAR, except you remove the excitement of contact, since fenders are required fo "rubbin", unless you count instantaneous vehicle destruction from tire to tire contact "rubbin".

I'll go to the race, but don't forget that I think IRL is a waste of a series. IRL and CART should have gotten back together and tried to return open wheel racing to some sort of glory... as it is, the Indy 500 is a waste of time, let alone the rest of the races those two series run.
