Default Turbo Timer... is it really necessary?

Well, I got a HKS blow-off valve on my car(finally), and I was thinking about purchasing a turbo timer as well... Is this really necessary to have or its just gonna be a waste of money?

Also... here is a stupid question.. whats a oil catching can for?

FYI, bozz performance in SF wants to sell me a titanium Cusco cat-back exhaust for $1600... ouchies

Most people consider it a waste of time on the stock turbo and boost on the WRX.

Big Ouch!!! Do you want Bling, or performance? You can get performance with $50-100 bucks worth of pipe and labor. Bling costs as much as you want and may perform like crap, or not. You should be able to get a really good Turbo Back with High flow cat for that much and enough bling to make most happy.

The titanium exhaust is well worth $1600, it's just a matter of whether you want to spend it. Pretty much any 3" mandrel exhaust with a good downpipe flange design and a free-flow muffler is going to make a lot of power. But titanium does weigh about 75% less. Were you talking to Alex at Bozz? He won't give you bad advice when it comes to tuning, but he is a super JDM whore.

Oil catch cans are there to keep oil vapors from flowing through your intake, compressor, and intercooler. They are worth having.

Finally, no, a turbo timer is not necessary on a stock turbo.

$1600 For a CAT Back I beleive is what he said, not Turbo back. I'm not sure any performance you can get from a Cat back is worth that IMHO. Maybe he meant Turbo back.

Whoops, yeah. I leapt to the conclusion $1600 meant turbo back, after shipping the most expensive turboback produced in the US for vishnu. MSRP: $1600

Cusco is really really good stuff. It is one of those brands where you get what you pay for- but you certainly pay. It's up to you to decide if you want to go that route, but I certainly don't look down my nose at people who spend a lot for the best quality parts. jsut the ones who spend a lot for ricer crap.

When I looked up metal properties for Ti & 304 stainless I came up with 281.4lb/ft^3 and 501.1lb/ft^3, respectively; that would mean the Ti is 56.2% the density of the SS.

That was just an educated guess on my part. Last I heard, the JIC titanium catback weighed ~7 pounds, and stock is 25+. Not exact numbers though.
