AccessPort Help!
I recently received my AccessPort and flashed my car to stage 1 (Yay!),
However, I cannot get the AccessPort to sync up to any PC (I have tried 2). The message I keep getting on the Map Manager software is "Could not identify AccessPort. Please contact tech support". I looked through the manula that came with it, and one of the suggestions is to download the patch file from the accessucu website. I have done that and when I try to open the file, it tells me that it cannot find the AccessPort on any of the available COM ports, even though the Map Manager says it is there, just with the above error I mentioned ! I have emailed Cobb and have not heard anything back (it has been 3 days !), so I thought I would seek help here since I am sure members on this board have used or are using AccessPort's . One other thing that I was wondering about is if there is a big difference between the regular Stage 1 map and the CA stage 1 map. I am going to Disneyland next week and was wondering if I should change over to the CA map when I am down there for a week? If so, then getting the AP to mate up to the PC becomes that much more imperitive since it only came with the regulat Stage 1 map loaded. Please help!!! TIA.

So I guess the only question that I would have now is if I should worry about flashing to the CA Stage 1 for when I am down there. Thought?

You should be running the CA map, because you're burning CA gas.

Hmmm, interesting. So far I have been running the standard Stage 1 map for 91 octane and I have not thrown I CEL or noticed anything out of the ordinary. I have the CA Stage 1 91 base map loaded on my AP now, and I will be taking it with me just in case something happens and I need to do a switch.

I never threw CELs or anything like that, I could just feel it pulling timing at WOT. On the CA map it was noticably less powerful, but much smoother.

And if you didn't have the newest map manager, you probably don't have the new maps either. You can check the versions, and if the one you flashed is not current, download the new ones to your PC, and then to the AP, and then to the car... Yes, it means one more base flash, but it is highly reccomended.

+1 for the CA map; it will be much safer. We have CA gas here and it sucks.

One more question then since we have CA gas (something I was not aware of), should I do a base flash or just switch over to a realtime map for CA Stage 1?

Base map for sure. Otherwise if you forget and the ECU gets reset (battery disconnected), you'll be back to the non-CA map.

I have read on LegacyGT.com that there are people who actually live in CA and are running the 49 state map without any problems. Where is nKoan at, I am sure he would have some insight on this.

Off the shelf maps are hit and miss.
For some cars they will make great power. For some they will be dangerous. For the overwhelming majority of people they will be very conservative, and leave a lot of power on the table. A custom tune is the only way to know for sure what your engine is capable of safely doing. If you have no issues with the 49 state map then I would use that. If there are any problems, it will be pretty obvious. Just stick to chevron/76/etc brands of gas and you should be fine. |

What's the term? Your mileage may vary?
The reason some cars can run the 49 state maps without knocking is because all cars (and gas stations) are not created equally. You could load the 49 state map and do some datalogging with the free Tari software, ECU Explorer. You just need a laptop and your AP cable. |

If I only had a laptop.....
I eventually plan on getting down to Gruppe-S (or another tuner) once I put on all of the mods that I plan on doing (finance and wife permitting ). I always put in Chevron supreme, so I should be good.

Not really. At altitude, you need less octane.
