You can cancel your contract without penalty this month!

http://www.gadgetell.com/2006/10/can...il-october-31/

Basically, because Sprint "substantially altered" their contracts by raising text message rates to $.15, they have to allow anyone who wishes to cancel their contract for free for the next 30 days.

WHOA! DAYUMN! Thanks for the heads up man, I might look into that. Although I finally have a serice provider and plan that I don't hate.

Unlimited local calling for $50/month + misc fees. I'm not sure there is a better deal.

Awesome... too bad I just paid out the ass for a new phone. Oh and that there are no worthwhile alternatives out there.

But christ... $0.15 for a text message? That's $0.30 to send a receive on their network. Thirty cents is more than it costs to manufacture a CD or a can of soda. Someone explain to me how come it costs so much to send <1k of data on a wireless network. I'm surprised they have the network time feature turned on in their network, that must be costing them billions of dollars sending all that data down to tell their phones what time it is!

On the bright side, if you kill your contract, you can get a new phone sooner. Hell, I'd do it just because I can. Except I'm on Verizon...

I've been itching for a new phone for a while now, and sprint doesn't really offer anything I want. Not that any other carrier's phones catch my eye either, but it's nice to know I have options at the moment.

Finally I am glad that I pay 8 bucks for 500 text messages.

The new Cingular 3125 smartphone looks pretty slick, a thin (RAZR-size) windows mobile setup...

I seem to get decent Cingular in Reno, but I'm not all over the place like you guys are.

I have sprint. But I pay for unlimited texts, so I wonder if I could still cancel mine? Or at least get a new phone. The tape isn't holding mine togeather very well anymore.

They are at it again! Considering I was just charged $85 dollars for calls made to GARDNERVILLE, I'm hopping on this.

I guess it happens fairly often. It appears Sprint has done it at least every year for the last couple. So if you need a reason to change companies, find out what changes your provider has made to how they bill you, and bam, no early termination fee.

I found out I don't have a contract with Sprint anymore anyway. So I'll be canceling after I get a new phone.

Getting a new phone would restart your contract in most cases.........under the new terms so you have no grounds for early termination based on contract change.

I should have specified after I get a new phone from AT&T. My bad.

I did get a new phone through Sprint earlier this year but it didn't renew my contract. Maybe it's because I outright bought it as opposed to upgrading.

Plus, out of all the carriers, grabbing a sprint phone cheaply and leaving to another carrier is, well... slightly moronic.

It's moronic to leave Sprint?

No, moronic to buy one of their phones and then leave.

Verizon is the only carrier you can take them to, and Verizon has better phones anyway.

It would be if I had just purchased the phone. And if it wasn't a piece of shit. I'm not sweating over a few lost dollars on the phone. The amount of money I'll save every month by being with ATT is well worth it.
