Default Thunderhill $110!

There appear to be only a handfull of openings left in 'A' Group for a full track day at Thunderhill put on by T.E.A.M on 1/12/07. Great price...I'm going if I can get the C6 through the pass!

email bonni@weatherwax.net if you're interested.

Interesting. I'm down for the Audi event anyway... Do I need a third day????

Sent them an email to find out what the deal is.

Thanks for the info.

I've emailed them and left a message on their voice mail yesterday PM. I know that the price kicks up to $125 after 1/5/07 :-( still a great deal. I logged on to the entrants list and it looked like there was 12 slots open in the 'C' (advanced) group. I'm going to try and weasel my way in.

What's the web site? I haven't gotten a response.

If you just heard about the event, and there are slots open, Bonni's usually pretty cool about letting people in at the original price if you ask nicely.

Just got a response from Bonni, only advanced is open, she said to just go for it if the roads are clear. If the long range forecast is correct I'm going. I'll probably leave Thursday afternoon and stay w/relatives down the mountain. A January track day would be a first for me, hell, being on THill will be a first!

You're gonna love T-Hill. It's a very straight forward track. RFR is downright scary due to the speed and all the blind corners... T-Hill is pretty much the exact opposite. I was barely able to get to 100 mph on the front straight there ('course that's back when my car had about 75-100 hp less than it's got now).

The hill there is a blast too by the way... just make sure you learn the line, 'cause missing it means hitting some beefy curbs... somewhere there's a video around here of Dean hitting the curb so hard he's two wheels airborne all the way down the back-side of the hill.

I'm not sure there is video, but there are definitely witnesses in existence. That is not the fast way around the corner. I caught the curb with the inside rear as the track starts to drop away off camber and with my very stiff suspension, the left side lifted. It was probably only slightly above level, but with the track dropping away there, I hear it looked pretty amazing. It landed really nicely, barely felt it.

Thunderhill is my opinion, the best learning / teaching track I have been on, and to be honest one of the most fun to drive.

I'm signed up to instruct assuming the STI is back together.

Oh, There might be in-car video, but the view from outside was what comments were made about.

Last time I was at Thunder Hill in the Subaru, I was getting free undercarriage inspections from people in the hotpit I went off the berm on 5 so many times. It's not the fast way aorund... but it's fun!

Do we know a Robert Yeung? He is a novice driving an STI. He is my student.

Is this a cool place to go and watch the race if you not racing, or is it hard to find a good spot. Does anyone have some pics?

It's quite a drive just to go watch but you may be able to score a ride in someones car which would be fun. You can see most of the track from the pit are so you'll be able to watch plenty.

Actually Thunderhill is not that far away. It's about 45-60 minutes north of Sacramento off 5. So that's less than 3 hours away, assuming good weather and traffic. That's about the same as Sears Point, and half the time to Laguna Seca. Really, T-Hill is the second closest race track to Reno next to RFR.

Also, the paddock is located in the middle of the track, you get a good view of the front straight, turn 1, the turn 5 hill, and then turns 11 and 12 (IIRC) behind you as the cars come down from the hills. It's no Sears Point as far as visibility, but it's descent. Plus, like Libila mentioned, you can probably get a ride with someone, so bring a helmet if you go!

BRRRRRR. mid 30's and strong winds all day kept the track and tires from ever heating up. But what a blast! 6-20 minute sessions. We lost one session when a BMW slid off the exit at 13 and ran backwards into a cement K-rail, it happened on the warm-up lap in the third session of the day. Driver was OK but shaken up. Lots of Miatas, RX-7s, BMWs, some Evos and STIs, Vettes, 911s, 78 entries overall. I used three different instructors, each had his strong points and were very helpful. Bonni runs a tight program and I will attend again soon. She'll be putting on a program at RFR this year, if you haven't participated in one of her events you may want to consider going . Major difference from SCCA is the allowance for you to take a passenger. Of course the only people that would get in a car with me had to be paid to do so!
