I don't know much about 'em Dean. I tend to ignore the Apex-i stuff because it all tends to be way overpriced, like HKS and Greddy stuff. It's probably not bad, just not as good as something else at that price. If you're interested in bang/buck, talk to Nate at S-Squared. I was just talking with Kavin tonight and he was telling me about Nate's ability to build some wicked good coilovers (Bilsten inserts, Ground Contol springs/perches) for cheap. Basically you could get a nice setup for cheaper than Tein/JICs or a better setup for the same price.

"Coil-over" is a general term to define a coil spring mounted co-axially outside the body of a shock or strut. According to the definition even the stock strut/shock and spring assemblies on the WRX are "coil-overs". I wish people would stop misusing that term.

I know that there still a spring over strut design but you are crazy to think that stock wrx struts can even be compared to some Tein's. My friend has STI struts and STI springs on 18 inch P1's with Neogen tires. I still catch up to him in the corners on stock tires with Tein's we were both amazed with the performance of the Tein's. He is now selling his set up to get what I have. Not only that I have gone to the Autox out here I have seen the Cobb car go not the cone basher there 2.5rs. I can tell you from watching josh from Cobb drive and seeing the car sway. My other friend with Tein's is smoking the Cobb car there is a hole lot of play in the Cobb car witch has a better set up than Nate is doing. no  PS If I see nate beet one of the cobb cars with his setup I will think off saying its is good but I would not put my money in a suspension system that is not as good as teins. Oh one more thing even Phil the kid I dont like said my coilovers were better than his and he said they felt stiffer but at the same time smooth.

Also, how can you say the Cobb car has better setup than Nate's? No one know's Nate's setup except Nate! Show me some spring rate info and shock dyno data from both Cobb and Nate and then you might have an argument. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying that's a pretty bold statement to make w/o any information to back it up... especially since I'm betting all the info you have on Nate's custom suspension you learned in this thread. I'm also pretty impressed that you can tell how good the Cobb setup is by simply "seeing the car sway". The whole point regarding Nate's suspension is that for less money, you can get a setup that's as good as any of the popular name brand coilover kits... and if you spend the same amount of money with Nate, you'll probably end up with a better setup than those kits. I hate to break the news to ya Evan, but Tein Flex's aren't the epitome of coilovers. They're damn good, especially for a <$2000 setup, but there are better setups out there. In general, a custom valved/sprung setup will be faster than an off the shelf setup if the guy putting it together knows what they're doing.

Damn you for beating me to it Scott. That's what I get for pondering my response over the second half of a game of Madden.

Here, I'll even show you some pictures if you're still not comprehending. This is a coil-over strut. This is not a coil-over strut. Any questions?

Regarding the original question, I have the apexi type V-N coilovers. They are incredibly well made. They are pricey. I think they list around $2300. I picked them up at Gruppe-S for around $1500. They are a great set-up...alittle on the stiff side, but handling is amazing.
