![]() And BTW: better engine management won't fix the creep issue unless it watches your boost and changes the TPS once you start to overboost. Basically the only way for Engine Managment to fix boost creep is to take the foot of the pedal for you, which it can do now that the STi is throttle by wire. The root of the creep issue is that even with the wastegate fully open, the car still increases boost. It's a mechanical problem... all the software can do it attempt to open the wastegate more, and once it's fully open, you're SOL. IMO, TBE = port that wastegate! Then hope Subaru doesn't look in there if you need warranty work done... even though a ported wastegate can't possibly hurt anything (unless you fuck the turbo up while doing it), I'm sure Subaru will try to deny your waranty repair.

I vaguely remember saying I was GONNA PORT MY WASTEGATE IN THE FIRST POST! God damned you guys. READ
![]() Yes, I know all the problems, that's why I'm gonna port the wastegate. I was more concerned with was there another route you guys would take? |

As far as your email regarding Boost Control... the XEDE is the only setup I know of right now for the STi and it controls boost. I haven't heard about UTEC for the STi, but UTEC and XEDE are equivalent products, so it should be about the same, if not a little better since the UTEC stuff is more Subaur specific IIRC. The holy grail of course is the STi ECU reflash, that way you gain access to the AVCS parameters, and that's when we'll start to see some uber-badass STis! So, I'd avoid a MBC or stand alone EBC. I think Vishnu's Stage 1 for the STi, plus a ported wastegate is the way to go right now, but it's tempting to wait a bit longer and see what's up with reflashes in the near future. Also, I hear ESX is working on a Project STi, so it might be interesting to see what they come up with. It should be out at the Buttonwillow track day March 22... and if I see it before then, I'll let you know what I can find out.

![]() STi = Subaru Tecnica International, Subaru's turning branch UTEC = doesn't stand for anything I think, it's just the name of a piggyback ECU XEDE = Same deal as the UTEC IIRC = If I Remember Corectly ECU = Engine/Electric Control Unit (derp!) AVCS = Advanced Valve Control System (I think), it's Subaru's equivalent to V-TECH or VANOS, i.e. variable valve timing MBC = Manual Boost Controler, simpel ball and spring valve for limiting boost EBC = Electronic Boost Controler, sensor and solinoid controled valves for limiting boost TBE = Turbo-Back Exhaust, i.e. replacing the exhaust from the trubo to the end ESX = East Street Motorsports, I think the X came from the name of their 9 second drag car, the Easy Street wrX Phew, that is a lot of acronyms (PTIALOA).

Dunno what AVCS is...? What I'm curious about is if the EM solutions will actually need a MBC or will they use some other method built into the car to control the boost? I've never seen/installed a EBC to know how it works. That was my question I guess. |

UTEC = User Tuned Engine Computer
ECU = Emissions Control Unit Most people confuse the E with Engine or Electronic... but last time I checked it actually stood for Emissions. Not sure what it stands for on UTEC, but since it should cover the entire engine's function, I believe it's engine? Someone correct me if I'm wrong... |

![]() UTEC is not standalone, it's a piggyback just like the XEDE is, and it can change most anything that the ECU uses for engine management, so I'd say "engine" is the correct "E".

Does the ECU function in a "stand-alone" or "piggyback" fashion? Both. Stand-alone timing control, piggyback style fueling control. Do you know if it needs a MBC to control the boost? Or is there some way it hooks into your lines to change it electronically? I'm still vague on that understanding. |

And word on the CPU thing. Fucking ECU controls whether you have "one-click" on your power windows now... wtf does that have to do with your Engine/Emissions? NOTHING!

Theoretically you can flash stuff through it as well if the manufacturer supports it. I can bring My notebook and OBD2 software if somebody wants to see it... At minimum, you can see the codes your dealer doesn't want you to know about, and reset the ones you don't want him to know about... ![]()
