I am getting major chatter when full lock turning and is getting worse. It goes away when I go to open center diff. I changeed the oil tonight to Royal purple 75-90 wt. synthetic and took it for a test drive. It semmed better but still pretty bad. Should I forego running tomarrow? Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated! 07 STI

Were you running locked, or Auto?
What fluid did you have in it before? Tire rub on the fender well/liner? Many of us are running Lightweight shockproof in the trans with great results.

I was running auto with stock oil and no tire rub. I also have lightweight shockproof in the tranny.

What did you change the fluid in then?
Run it... WTF? It is either going to fail or not anyway. Bring the trailer out just in case?

Mine did that when I put the wrong stuff in the rear diff. If you recently changed the rear diff oil, you probably put the wrong stuff in. In fact, if you put the same stuff in the diff as you put in the tranny, then you definitely put the wrong stuff in.

The gear oil you use doesn't affect the operation of the center diff.

i put the shockproof in back in March. it made a world of differance in the shifting. The binding seems to be coming from the rear diff. I changed to the 75-90 royal purple last night to see if that would help. It seems to have helped a little, but it is still binding on take off.
