new clutch problum - Subaru Enthusiasts Car Club of the Sierras

i installed a new clutch 2day and now i cant get the clutch to disengage i looked inside were the clutch fork is and had a friend push the clutch in and the pressure plate moves back i torqed the pressure plate to the 11 pound spec.. i adjusted the pedal and bled the clutch sence everyone seems to think that is it but nothing is diffrent any idea ??

Did you make sure to install the clutch disk in the right direction? There is front and back.

yea it only goes in one way i tryed and it wouldnt even go in i have the part thats bolged out tward the pressure plat

Not claiming to be an expert, but pull/push is which way the cable/cylinder moves, not which way the clutch plate TOB moves.

And if the TOB looks like

Putting it in backwards would make a difference but still move the plate.

In fact Dean, that does make a difference in which direction the TOB moves. On a pull type setup, the bearing moves away from the engine when you release the clutch disc. On a push, it moves toward the engine.

All I can do without seeing it is suggest things you've likely already heard a dozen times: Do you have the right clutch disc? Is the clutch release fork pivot pin installed correctly? Etc...

yea i installed it and double checked it idk im re doing it today to see wtf is going on.........damn i hope its not a shitt clutch

oh yea its a compation stage 4 6 puck clutch i hear they have shitty throw out bearings should i go get on at subaru and use that on instead maybe?

Did you make really sure that you got both arms of the fork into the throwout bearing? When I was installing my last clutch I had a pretty good view in there and for some reason it was really easy to get only 1 side of the throwout bearing hooked up with the fork.

I'll go add this to the learned something today thread.

I just thought it had to do with how the cable/arm attached to the lever, not the actual function of the pressure plate. I did not realize there were actually pressure plates that worked in the different directions...

yea man i installed the trow out bearing in the trans i didnt put it in the pressure plat just so i wouldnt have that problem and yea i made sure i got it locked in to the pressure plat i pushed the clutch fork toward the firewall tell i felt it slide in but im thinking its a bad trow out bearing maybe the tabs got bent or something so im going to subie to get one today

no my bad for the shitty spelling but anyways today i started the car after clutch adjustment but anyway now its make a sound like there is bbs in a can i have no fucking clue what that is but tearing it apart 2marow

so i think i fixed it i took it off the jack stands and it worked great lol...................... idk if i should take it apart again to see what the hell is going onn or if i should just leave it

So you were trying to drive your car on jack stands and then you took it off the jack stands and now it works.
