If it's worth doing... it's worth doing badly.
Question Opinions on Axxis ULT and StopTech pads?

Any opinions on the Axxis/PBR ULT pads, and the StopTech "Performance" street pads? The application is mostly street with occasional HPDE track use. $$ is a consideration, but not the only one. Don't particularly want to be swapping pads at the track. Thanks!!

I personally cannot stand Axxis pads, but I've heard tons of good feedback for the Stoptech street pads. I just bought a set for both my Stoptechs going on my Forester XT, and for the Subaru 4 pot brakes on my little wagon. The new Street Performance pads seem to be the magic bullet for just about any street/autocross car.

Ults are good as long as you do not get them too hot. I'm a big fan of the whole EBC lineup though as they are a better bang for your buck IMHO. Do some searching, we have discussed most every brake pad choice at least once.

I have a set of Porterfield R4-S rears that should fit your car but don't fit mine. They have a little bit of wear, but look practically new. $20?

I may also have a new set of EBC Yellows for the rear of your car too, cheap. EBC sent me a free set but they're also for the later MY fitment. But if they ask me to send them back in order to get the right ones, I won't be able to sell them.

Yellows are more aggressive and work for track days but somehow are streetable too. R4-S are great street/autox pads.

+1 on the ebc yellows have them in my sti and they work good. so far i got about 7 auto-x, 3 track days and a whole winter (in tahoe) on them with no problem. stay away from ebc reds they suck, they are loud, and takes some heat before they work correctly.

But, back to the StopTechs; I assume they are a new formulation, not a relabeled pad from somebody else? I couldn't find much information on the StopTech website besides a bar graph.

When I do a product search for '05 WRX/STi on the StopTech site, they come up with 4 pads for the STi. ST41 (p/n 309.06080), ST40 (309.06090), ST22 (309.09610), and ST60 (309.12470). Are the STxx numbers an industry pad size reference?

KNSbrakes.com lists 309.1001 front and 309.01690 rear. $80F/$50R. Is that an OK deal? Thanks all!

The STxx numbers are references to the various StopTech calipers they sell with their big brake kits. Those are the pads for their own brakes.

Well, I'm giving the StopTechs a try (the "Performance Street"). Installed them (F&R) yesterday and did a couple sets of bed-ins. Got 'em pretty hot and no noticeable fade. No bad behavior so far. We'll see how they do...

Sure. Here are some for a '98-'05 VW Bug. $80 for all four. Link.

Or maybe you could tell us what sort of car you're shopping for rotors for.

If it's for the STi, no. If it's for the rally car, NAPA like Cody said.

seeing how my rally car is Drums in the rear... (ya guess no one really has a way of knowing this) or that i just replaced the brakes on the rally car (think i mentioned that but maybe not)

ya its for the STI. i can get Brembo 9.4" rotors for the rally car for 12$ a piece (fronts of course) and drums are more .. lolz

allrighty so i guess 240 for 4 is not to bad of a deal . guess i should see if i can turn my again hmmf
