Deal, did somebody say Deal? Oh, Dean, yeah that's me.
Default Wanted dead/dying batteries.

Hey, if you have a dead or dying car battery and planning to trade it in anyway, I'll give you a known dead one to trade.

I like to try and resurrect them and have some failures I need to get rid of and need new candidates.

I've got a red top and a yellow top in my garage that have resisted all my reconditioning efforts you can have.

Apparently the yellow top in my WRX at KSpeed is dead-ish now too since they've just been cold starting my car twice a day for the last 8 months without ever running it. Which sucks because that was basically a brand-new battery that went into the car just before they got it since it replaced my old yellow top that had died from the same treatment from the previous time it was living at the shop.

That is a bummer. Are they all out of warranty? You have the worst luck with Optimas! I'll take whatever you have and give you trade ins if you need/want them. Optimas are a tough salvage since you can't rehydrate them which is usually how they fail. I have better luck with Gel cells than Optimas, but will try anything.

OK, or maybe grab it at your work? Need a trade-in?

My biggest problem with the Red Tops Optimas was in the SVX. For whatever reason the SVX alternator would just eat Optimas and other sealed batteries. It's a known thing apparently.

But the yellow tops are just getting killed by non use in the WRX.

You might want to get a battery tender for when its sitting at the shop. They are right around 20 bucks.

It's on my list of equipment the shop needs in the near term.

Skip the Battery Tenders... The Harbor Freight ones are cheap, work great and you won't be pissed when you invariably run over/tear the cords out, etc...!!! Often on coupon sale for as little as $5. You can also get similar ones on eBay for cheap.
http://www.harborfreight.com/automat...ger-42292.html

And somebody bought a shipping container of Schumacher chargers of all types and is blowing them out in singles and lots on eBay for pennies or dimes on the dollar vs. retail if you are willing to bid/snipe.

None of these will fix a dead/dying battery, but will help keep them from getting that way.

FWIW, I grabbed a couple of the Schumacher bits - a 750w inverter that I got for $20, and a few of the jump boxes/compressers that I got for about $31 apiece. I'll have to see how the batteries hold up - I know they won't be like my Jump and Carry, but for less than half the retail price, I don't expect it - they seem like decently assembled devices and are great for an occasional road trip/recovery function )like my wagon always was and my truck is turning into ). Also tossed one in Carolyn's car for peace of mind.

Thanks for the heads up.
