				 | Royal Purple Subaru oil change special $57

Hey guys, a few of you have taken advantage of this already but I still have three more RP oil changes available at this price. 5 quarts of 5w30 plus a Royal Purple filter for the next three people who schedule with us! I can squeeze in one or two this afternoon, but the rest will wait until at least Monday.

Do you happen to know if Royal Purple makes a larger than stock compatible filter? I took advantage of the recent deal at Pepboys and was bummed that the filters were the small ones, not the larger ones that were original on the 02-03. Maybe I can exchange them for the larger ones.

10-2867 is the Nissan crossreference, and it's a little taller but otherwise the same.

For the record, I don't think the RP filters are all that much better than Wix premium or the new Fram Ultras. I certainly wouldn't try to charge a customer $15+ for them with a straight face. We still use the Wix for most turbo cars, and K&N for those who really want to go the extra dollar.

I'll try to trade them for Purolator Pure 1's since those come in the full OEM size and are great filters, plus they're cheap.

Cody, if you were still up here, I'd tell you I grabbed all the taller ones at Pep Boys. I agree, the tall Purolator PureOne PL14610 are my filter of choice right now. As Kevin said, the RP tall is the 10-2867.

Why does that not surprise me, Dean. When I found the $35 off deal, I called and had PepBoys order a case of oil and 2 filters for me. Hopefully they have a good exchange policy. Are the PL14610 and 10-2867 the same size/shape? Just wondering in case they make me stick with RP brand for some reason.

They will make you stick with RP, but you can exchange them. I took back two of them yesterday, but had to order the replacements.

Thanks Kevin. I'll make sure to call ahead again then. The closest Pepboys is about 8 miles away so I try to limit the # of trips. BTW, when I bought this deal, I forgot to use the $75 in PB giftcards I have. D'oh! If anyone finds any good deals on other stuff from PB, let me know. So far the only thing on my list is some sort of lock lubricant for my car doors. Any advice on what to get?

Actually, this is the only business I'v ever done with PepBoys so far. I am getting set up for wholesale with them and if the tire deals are good (or anything else) I will keep everyone posted. But for retail customers, I would just use the gift cards for whatever it is you happen to need when you see it in an ad flyer.

I've been getting Rotella T6 and Purolator Pureone filters from them for years. Any advice on what to use to lube my door locks? Most of them take a lot of jiggling to work and my keyeless entry hasn't worked in years.

As far as lock lubrication... get some sandpaper and a pencil, file some graphite off the pencil onto a clean sheet of paper with a crease in it, then just pour a little of the graphite dust into the keyhole before operating the key a few times to work it into the mechanism. At least that used to be a good way to lube a door lock... but the last car I needed to do that on was an '86 Ford Escort.

Pretty much the same size give or take. The deal forced you into the RP filter. I haven't really researched, but it is probably pretty good. Not in the STI oil filter spreadsheet.

Jiggling can also be because the key is worn and the tumblers don't quite line up anymore! If you have one you never use, try that. If it works better, bet a new one cut from it.

Awesome! Thanks for the advice everyone. Scott, not only did I try reprogramming (remarrying the fobs) repeatedly, I actually got a whole new keyless entry controller, used, and installed it. But both Fobs are still super flaky and won't work most of the time. Yes, I replaced the batteries in both of them. It has to be a bad connection from one of the wires that plugs into the controller or some other issue with the car. The electric lock and unlock switch on the door always works fine.

I need to do the oil in the wife's car. Not sure I need to bother with the RP treatment if Rotella is cheaper. LMK, I'm off work on Friday if you're open and can squeeze me in, thought I might not want to bother with trying to get across town on Black Friday.

Scott, sorry I missed this, I managed to go a whole day without checking on this forum in, oh, 7 years. I will be in the shop tomorrow, I'll let you know if Rotella or RP is cheaper. I'm assuming you want the T6 synthetic.
