This is a poor example of a track day event. I don't know who the sponser was/is but the people behind the k-wall could have very easily been killed or injured. The lack of safety equipment of the people exiting the cars was astonishing. I was waiting for the next group of cars to come through that corner hot and take out all the good samaratins. I've never been to an track day where at the very least you needed a helmet. WTF!

Its okay, after the forum beat him up he said he'd replace the nuts with spacers instead (like that is supposed to fix the problem).

if turning over the motor is the correct response for it being on fire, why didn't he try to turn it over some more when he was on fire.

One of the interesting things, is that there is some logic (maybe) on keeping the engine cranking after a fire.

Eh, carb fires are counterintuitive - and that wasn't a carb fire, that was "gas all over the place lit up". That's not going to be sucked back in.

I can tell you that I'd have been thinking about the fuel source next to the open flame a lot earlier than he was......

And, you know, had an extinguisher next to me when test firing out of a gas tank. What's the worst that could happen? I blame Steve for my constant attention to that detail.

The first step of dealing with a carb fire is recognizing the difference between the fuel in the carb burning, and fuel that's been sprayed all over the garage burning.

I never understood the idea of trying to turn an engine over before everything is completely buttoned up. The chances of screwing something up are high enough with a 1st start... why make it 1000 times riskier by trying that shit without a working fuel system or exhaust? Unless you really want to start over rebuilding the engine (or the whole car), I guess.
