Oceano Dunes kick ass! - Subaru Enthusiasts Car Club of the Sierras

So, apparently the oceano dunes right next door to where we live is the only place in California where you can actually drive you car down onto the beach. We've taken the Jeep down there a couple times now, and... it kicks ass! Short of being on a racetrack, this is one of the most fun things you can do with your pants on.

Jeeps are awesome too... I have even more respect for their 4-wheeling abilities now that we've taken a 17 yr-old factory stock Cherokee out and cruised around the soft-sand dunes for hours with no problem. Just air down the tires to 10psi or so, put it in 4wd-low, and go for it.

You just gotta watch out that you don't do something stupid like drive through deep water on the beach and get ruined like this guy:

Custom mix of components
4.5" lift Coils springs
Rancho 9000 5 way adjustable shocks
Custom cromoloy rear links
Elipticle front links for added drop
Stainless steel brake lines.
ADjustable pinion angle brackets
Heavy duty Chromoly tie rods
Quick-disconnect sway bars

Drivetrain
Drive shaft in rear converted to heavy duty CV shaft, could operate at any angle.
Heavy duty front shaft
Modified output shaft
Transmission cooler
Axle vents in cab for water crossing capability

Tires
33 12.50 BFG Mud terrain
on American racing Black steel 15x7

Custom Heavy Duty swing out tire carrier
Dick Cepek Baja Laser Spot lights
undercarriage rock lights for night wheeling.

I dumped so much more into that jeep than I ever will in my subaru. Seriously, I don't even know how much $ I had into the jeep...

No, it's all good.

Actually, they work a lot better with 33's, unless you go absolutely crazy on the suspension and change the geometry, longer control arms, bigger lift, etc.

I put 35's on it briefly, and I just didn't work as good, it really took away a lot of travel.

I think 33's are perfect for mildly modified setups like mine had.

That was my point. You had a mild setup, hence you needed to spend more money.

If I get a TJ (which I may) I'd probably run 33s for the trail and 35s on the street (for the ladies). You had a nicely modded Jeep but Austin's comment made me laugh since you had a nice but mild compromise setup.
