Default Whats up with Tirerack.com

I'm trying to replace one of my rims but it looks like tire rack doesn't carry the anthracite color in 17X7.5. Anyone know if they stoped selling them or maybe they stoped making them in that color and size. I could just get the silver and wait till the brake dust turns them anthracite, but I'd like to be able to clean the wheels.

If they are OZ wheels, then the supply is getting smaller and smaller. OZ has scaled back their production a lot, and I think Tire Rack is the only dealer with any decent stoclk left. OZ has discontinued a lot of wheels. I've been looking for one wheel to replace one on a Mini and have had little luck.

If it's not an OZ, then I don't know why they don't have them.

Speed Star Wheels went bankrupt a few months ago, so they stopped making wheels.

They just started back up again, with Tanabe settling their debts and bringing Speed Star under their corporate umbrella. They are starting up production again. You might be lucky, and be able to find your wheels again soon. They they full anthracite, or anthracitw with polished lip?

Edit: Nick beat me.

SSR went bankrupt, so any of the SSR Comps that Tirerack still has are leftovers. Tanabe has bought SSR now, and is supposed to have new versions of the wheels out soon. They are different than the old Comps though, so you aren't going to find a new replacement for yours. You could get a silver one and try to have it painted to match, or just get all 4 painted/powdercoated the same color.

The new Comps will not have polished lips, and I think all the original anthracite ones did.

Ooh, barely (though you have a better response).

Yeah, I forgot about that. Although, if I remember correctly, the Anthracite/polished lip ones were only available through Tire Rack. SSR didn't actually make them that way.

The polished lip is what made them Competitions instead of Type-Cs IIRC. I prefer the non-ricer lip personally, so w00t for Tanabe's management.

I guess 1 silver won't look too bad, at least untill I can get them powdercoated. Unless I can find so high temp Anthracite paint. I'll just stick to the ricer look of the polished lip. Theres a little rice in all of us .

FWIW, polished lips are pretty low on my personal rice-ometer. I just prefer non-polished when ossible, however I had already settled on SSRs for my Miata before I knew they may be going back to non-polished. My CE28s were polished lip before I painted them as well.
