Default Maybe I'll build I new compy?

Should I start just looking up best reviewed parts on cnet, newegg, etc?

Should I wait a few month for more cool stuff to come out?

Just get a high level Gateway, Dell and be done with it?

I don't have to have a new compy right now, but I've been itching for something that can kill in the graphics department for a while. My laptop will be my little work-horse computer, I don't even have office suite on this desktop I have now.

There are a couple parts out there that stand out for me like the new Dell 24" LCD and the new X800 video cards.

If you are planning on playing video games at all you should wait a little while longer until directX 10 capable hardware matures a bit.

So, roll your own and replace the video card in 5 months?

Yeah, I'd wait 6 months or so, at least.

That is what I have thought with every PC I have ever bought ... I will just upgrade the CPU or the vid card later, then the socket changes and I am stuck. Like right now, I have a decent PC with an aging vid card and no PCX slots.

My vote is to assume you can upgrade everything except the CPU and Vid card and plan around that.

In this case, wouldn't it be a fairly safe assumption that there will be good DX10 PCI Xpress x16 vid cards at least for a while?

Yes, but it'll be hard to find a cheap one in the interim while you wait for the good one to become cost effective.

Bah, computer hardware sucks. There is a reason I went software.

This is why I almost gave up on PC gaming entirely.

I agree, wait for DX10 to get established if you are all about gaming.

Buying a gaming PC now is kind of like picking a BlueRay or HDDVD player but not quite.
