so back to the topic.....looks like Aug. 7/8 or Aug.21/22 for camping
I know July 17/18 is bad....I am going to the ALMS too.

Later is better for me. I'm dying to go camping too, and I've got some sites in mind if anybody wants a suggestion. In fact, they are VERY close to the route we took on our huge drive last year, and we could hit the good parts in one round trip from "base camp"

In the little triangle between sacramento, north shore and south shore, I know plenty of great spots.

Though, I haven't been since my high school days, so I don't know if they are all any good.
