Dean's got a thing for 1960/70's James Bond style cars.

And that certainly is not the coolest MBZ... these are cooler:

1955 Gullwing 300 SL

2005 Mercades/McLaren SLR

McLaren/Mercades F1

At least IMO.

Scott loses, he is dissing my car, and he posted a non-game related sequence.

Go read about the C111 series and then come back and talk to me.

And yes, I like gull wings.

Edit, and what is James Bondish about the R8?

The R8 is like the crappy car that Bond is forced to drive in a hurried getaway that gets totally smashed in the process of dodging a bunch of inept baddies and careeining through tight Italian streets/cafes/fruit-stands. But when it's all over, Connery... er Bond, gets out of the car in his perfectly pressed suit, w/o a drop of sweat and says something like "I guess that's the way the Gordini crumbles", while lighting a cigarette and walking over to his Austin Martin and driving away w/ a hot, boa-clad chick in the passenger seat.

US: 2005 Ford GT

I didn't grow up a car guy... I was 20 before I really got into them, so I prefer modern performance over nostalgia usually. Plus, this is the only car that white (with the blue stripes) would be my first color choice.

Japan: 1972 Bondurant Datsun 240Z

Okay I lied. Some cars simply can never overcome the sheer appeal of the original. If I ever get the chance to rebuild/restore a car just because I think it's cool, it will probably be a 240Z.

UK: 2000 Prodrive Subaru Impreza STi P1 edition

For some reason I always liked the P1 better than the 22b, despite it having less all-around performance. I guess the uber-rare halo care status of the 22b makes the P1 more "real" to me or something. Regardless, the P1 could not have been made any better for it's purpose- driving around the UK at criminal speeds on mostly terrible roads.

Germany: BMW 850ci

This is what you get when you build an SVX for BMW buyers. Even without a manual, this car is bad ass.

Europe: 2002 Ferrari 575M Maranello

If I could have one car, free of charge, I'd probably pick this one. It doesn't have the sheer performance of the GT or a 911 or a 360 Modena, but I'd want it for an everyday use car where 10/10ths doesn't matter anyway. It's my favorite Gran Turismo. And, Ferrari is the only marque where red would be my first color choice.

I'm sorry, but this has gone from a freindly game of post "your favorite car from that marque!" to post "your favorite car from that marque!" and let Scott tell you why it's wrong.

First he rags on Aaron's "7" which rocks by the way..., then Scotty's 996, and then basically my whole list...

F that.

The new Ford GT is like 99% the same as the original GT-40. Sure the tech is better, but like your point about the 240Z Kevin, why bother w/ the do-over... 'Course there are only like 7 original GT-40's left... so you'd have to buy a replica. At least owning a GT, you'd have a real Ford product.

F that.
1) I started the game.
2) You don't have to play.
3) What's keeping you from discussing my choices.
4) The whole point of this was to generate conversation, since the board's been really light lately... just posting a bunch of pictures and not talking about 'em doesn't actually help busy up the board much.
5) No one's actually posted any crappy cars... 'cept maybe the DMC... but that one is certainly unique.

In spirit yes, in flesh, no. The new one whips the old one in every measurable performance factor, despite being almost 1000 pounds heavier and passing all modern emissions and crash standards. Plus, I always seem to prefer a road car to it's race version. Just like I prefer touring sedans to stock cars, and WRC to F1. "Real" cars going racing appeal to me more than LM cars with a few hundred "road" versions to meet silly FIA homologation rules.

With the 240... well, the 350Z didn't survive modernization as well as the GT did. It's still cool, but compared to its competition, it doesn't shine like the 240 did.

Scott just got own3d by the W.O.P.R.

On paper, the new GT is certainly a "better" car than the original (and there were original GT-40 road cars). However, the fact that the original GT-40 was born because Henry Ford decided "fuck Ferrari, let's go win Le Mans", it has a certain something the new car is missing. The new GT is more of a "lets build a supercar to serve as a halo vehicle to make more money", and it's existance is entirely due to the success of the original Ford UK team that build the GT-40.

To me, the nostalgia makes the older car the "better" car.

(And for Dean's sake: that's just my opinion, posted for the sake of conversation, not because I'm somehow trying to discredit or imply that Kevin's wrong.)

It's a good thing you guys are so into cars too, otherwise you'd never overcome all of your accumulated geek points. Back on topic! More cool cars!

I thought Joshua was the kid's name... it's been like 15 years since I've seen that movie.

BTW: is that the one that starts w/ the kid playing Pole Position at like level 99 where it's going so fast the machine breaks or something?

Hence my statement that, not having true "car guy" roots, I just wanna go faster. I have to admit the whole revenge motivation for the original is damn cool, but it won't be long before the GT is spanking the new 430 in LM or elsewhere. If it wasn't for my brief ownership of a 280ZX, even the 240 wouldn't have made the list. But as much as I liked my beat-down, totally stock and original 1980, I can imagine how awesome a 240Z was in 1970. I think the dynamics of that car would put it off the charts in fun-to-own factor for me.

Just like Ripley's, believe it or not, KEVIN I've seen three of your five cars today on McCarran and Virginia streets today while running errands right around 2:00 today. The ferrari 575M (black), Bmw 850ci (also black), and the '05 Ford GT (red). I've remembered to take pictures of the 575m with my phone, it was too late with the other two.

Okay, since i'm a noob, I couldn't figure out how to post between my pictures. Anways......

1. NISMO 400 R, need I say more?

2. 1969 COPO Camaro, the ultimate sleeper, all aluminum small block 427, ratd at 425 hp, but from what I gather grossly underated from the factory.

3. AC Cobra, Carol Shelby= Pimp status

4.1969 Ferrari 365 Gtb4 "Daytona" Nicknamed that after a 1-2-3 finish at Le
Mans. V-12's ar Neat

5. And last but not least, 1957 Porsche 550 Spyder, the same type of car that James Dean was killed in, but Imo one of the, if not the most beautiful cars ever conceived.

The End.

And I never knew there was a ragtop version of the 360... it looks like a PowerWheels.
