I am currently in the market for an exhaust, and i was wondering if a 3" turbo back would be too big? Also does anyone have any recommendations on what kind of exhaust i should purchase for my 2002 WRX.

I have Cobb's 3" turboback and I love it. When I first got it I thought it was too loud but the sound has grown on me to the point where I now think it sounds great. It is quiet when I short shift and don't use full throttle, so I can avoid annoying the neighbours.
As far a power goes, a huge difference over stock. I made more power everywhere, and reach full boost by 3k rpm. I should also point out that my ecu is reflashed to cobb stage 2 as well, which is probably a large part of the change. I _strongly_ recommend that you look into some kind of engine management to go with a new exhaust. |

Other people on the board have used or are currently using:
BPM MRT Vishnu Helix Perrin(pretty soon) Hopefully they can reply for you. I get the impression most people are really happy with turbo-back applications. The BPM seems to be pretty loud, much more so without silencer of course. I have heard the COBB on Mikes car and it's a nice gargle and even tone at throttle. The Vishnu tone at throttle is a bit more seperated and angry sounding.

I've got the Vishnu, which I understand is made by the same people that make the M2 exhaust. It's very mellow at cruise compared to many of the others, and still has a nice growl when you get on it. I'm very happy with it, but it does cost a bit more than some of the others, since Vishnu charges a premium for their stuff.
![]() One thing to note, on an '02 you'll probably want to do the up-pipe as well as a turbo-back since the up-pipe has that pre-catalytic converter. Replacing the up-pipe does wonders for spooling the turbo up. Actually, I've got a stock up-pipe that MattR was nice enough to gutt the cat out of (he was going to put it on his old wagon, but decided to sell it and get an STi). If you'd like it, I'm sure we can work something out (but I'll need your stock up-pipe back so I can install it on my car when/if I sell it). A gutted stock up-pipe is just about as good performance-wise as an aftermarket on, plus it's got the heat shield and has a lower chance of leaking.

I am the BPM Twister owner. One of the reasons I picked it was sue to it's divorced wastegate pipe that merges back into the exhaust cleanly under the car minimizing back pressure on the Turbo.
I like that it has the reomovable silencer. It appears to breath much better with it out, but is appreciably quiter with it in. I also have an S-Squared Up-Pipe Nate has thretened to make his own entire Turbo-Back for less than most of the ohter options out there, but don't think he has gotten around to it yet. You ccould call or PM him and ask. Come on out to a meet and you can listen/ride in them all.

I think there is a time limit on Dibs... I think it is as long as the giver/seller says. ![]() I still have a cat back and some Front and Rear camber bolts lying around that people want, but no $$$s, so they are up for sale as well, cheap...

Thanks for the info, also does anyone have any ideas about down pipes with an electric cutout. QTEC down pipe claims to gain 21 whp, and 24 pounds of torque, and i think it sounds awesome. Below is a link to the their web site, which has a demonstration video of the down pipe on an 03 WRX. Let me know what you think.

or Turbo-back vs Turbo-back with QTEC Downpipe edit: after reading the article it looks like they keep a stock system and add thier downpipe. So it yields close to the same results as a turbo-back it looks like.

Well the only way to find out if it works is to give it a try. Can't hurt right.
