Default Is Carson City long distance from Reno?

If so that's pretty dumb. That is all.

It all depends on your perspective. To a Bay Area import... a 30 minute drive down 395 is a breeze of a commute, whereas, I'd shoot myself if I had to do that everyday since I'm used to a 2 minute commute down the street.

I'm just a dumbass (see title). I forgot that I didn't change my number over here yet so everything is long distance here to my cell phone. If I leave the area code off it dials back to 707.

Oh, we're talking about "long distance" phone calls!

BTW: At least w/ AT&T Wireless, all numbers need to be dialed w/ all 10 digits now.

Yes, I'll fix it for you. Again.

Yeah, Carson is local, but Carson Valley/Gardnerville/Minden is LD from Reno. Screwy.

Cingular allows 7 digits for local calls, apparently even when out of my home area code. Perhaps their system automatically adds the area code to 7 digit numbers. Funny how different AT&T and Cingular still are, even though they're the same company now.

Yeah, Cingular bought AT&T Wireless, but AT&T is still fully independantly operated.... at least for now. The only change I've noticed is that my phone wil sign-on to Cingular networks automatically now and I don't get charged roaming. That's actually pretty nice, since my coverage doubled, and I have a signal on Cingular's towers now in all the places I used to be in a shadow.

With AT&T you used to be able to use the 7 digit number for local calls but only if you were in your home area code. So it would take a few seconds to make sure you were in your local area code, and then it would still tack on the extra 3 digit area code because the network likes 10 digit numbers, not 7. So dialing 7 digits ended up taking more time then dialing 10.

AT&T only recently started requiring the full 10 digits.
