Default I need help finding a car.

This might be a tall order but I am looking for a great running, reliable, subaru wagon that is awd and a manual. I'm also looking to spend $5K, preferably less of course.

I'm going to school in Tahoe next year and I need something to get around in the snow. I would like it to be in my area (reno) so I can look at it and test drive it without taking a road trip. Let me know if you guys have seen anything around.

Thanks in advance.

I think there's like 3 or 4 other people on this board looking for the same car... me included until I just bought an SVX.

I'd suggest looking at Auto Trader online and the like. Look for one in California, since there's basically a "Reno Subaru Markup" due to the fact that Suby's last forever and have AWD. Anyone selling one in Reno usually asks for more than someone in Sacramento or the Bay Area would.

Only one I could find in that range in Reno:

$2,250, '93 Subaru IMPREZA, AWD 5 door, 120K mi., 5 spd., A/C, CD, newer tires, great snow car, $2250/obo. Call 250-2788.

Also try the local papers up here. There are always subarus for sale:

www.sierrasun.com

Then search the classified ads.

I'm starting to lean toward a cheaper alternative, a baja bug. The only thing I need to figure out is how to make a better heating/defrosting system for it.

All of the money is coming from stundent loans, so I don't want to get too far in over my head.

Not quite $5k but it's cheap for an RS.
