2005 PSM STi, boost gauge, security upgrade, auto-dim mirror.
Dealer says there are 219 miles on the car, and supposedly they go with the people when they test drive it...whatever. They will give it to me for $29,410 (I am in the mid-west, btw, JC is one of my good friends). If I can bargain down to $29,000 flat and get some floor mats, should I jump on this demo? Talking to the dealer, he seems like a good guy, he said the car has no damage and has not been in an accident...it's been there for months and they are desparate to get rid of it. He says that PSM/Gold isn't popular and isn't selling (but he will swap silver wheels on for me). Tell me what ya think... |

I went on a few test drives with the local dealer in Reno that amazed me. The salesman blew threw the gears, reved the heck out of the motor, slammed the brakes, several times, to show me how well the car braked, etc. I only buy new cars with less than 10 miles on them. Flame away all that believe that the millage isn't enough to do any harm. I beg to differ. A member here recently bought a new one at near that price. I'm not sure what the millage was. Shop around. well, from what i have been told by the shop people that i go to, the car is "broken in" almost 90% from when it comes from the factory.. People are all different in their opionion on what is "broken in." I think after a few hundred miles, the car is done with whatever it needs to do. I'm not sure how to explain it, but, the motor will need to be broken in the FIRST time it is turned on. (this is done at the factory) Althought it is not a very smart idea to go and rev high for the first 300 -500 miles, chances are the motor wont be effected after the first few hundred miles. (hell it may not be harmed after the first 100 miles!)
I say, if the motor is supposed to be strong, it'll be strong no matter what you do. I know of some people who have broken in there WRX's for a 1000 miles, and others who did no break in their cars at all (50 miles from the dealership) and just off the lot tearing on the car, dyno harder than the person who did the break in correctly. I guess this could show that part of getting a "strong" motor is more of a "luck" affair. Now, if you're worried about the longevity of the motor.. the break in period of 1000-1500 miles might be worth while... maybe well, this is all just my opinion. I suppose my response is bias in many ways because i was revving my EVO up after 650 miles, and was modding it at 850 miles. I also took it to a pretty intense track day at 1100 miles, and then put it on the dyno. Even with this "abuse" my car put down good numbers for TBE and an EBC (compared to other evo's with the same mods). ![]() Anyway, i'm not sure if this helps or not.. BUT, the way i see it is, STi's were built to be driven. If the price is right on this one (1000+ dollars less than what you'd pay on a new one), buying it wouldnt' be a bad idea. ![]() anyway, if the motor was "weaker," with the 1000 you save, you could buy TBE and sound cooler AND have more power than the STi you woulda bought! BUT, who said the motor is guarenteed to be "weaker" anyway? ![]()

It doesnt matter how few miles the car had on it when you bought it. Hell it could've had 1 mile on it at the time of delivery, it was still the roughest mile the car every will see. If it wasn't at full boost or at the rev limit or something for that 1 mile, it was idling for hours on end for that one mile. Personally though I wouldn't buy a demo car. That's worse than buying a rental. Just spend a lil more and get one that isn't the lot whore.
