Default gauging interest.

well people its time for phil to upgrade again. soooooo who wants my intercooler? i also have an aps dual stage bov that i happened onto the other day. this bov is a recircular bov that doesnt vent to atmoshpere, so you wont need a remap.

http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/wrx/blow.htm

my intercooler is an m2 version 3 top mount (975 retail). it is polished, however i havent kept it clean as i should. it is a bar and plate design and flows more than the greddy frount mount. i will also include the m2 tmic pipe (135 retail). please let me know what you guys think its worth... and if anyone is interested. thanks!

keep in mind that a there is only one front mount that will flow more. also you will have less throtle response, and more lag. the only reason i am going to a front mount is i need the volume. im going to a bigger turbo. and this ic wont cut it. but remeber i have one of the biggest bolt on turbos money can buy and i still dont "need" a front mount.

also forgot to mention i will be throwing in my ic sprayers, motor and control solenoid with the intercooler itself.

i will also need to get rid of my aps cai atthe same time. however i will issue a warning with the cai. it requires a remap of the ecu or a piggyback type system. as the maf sensor reading will need to be adjusted.

lates!

yes i am.... however i will be parting with this material first. the turbo kit i am getting is being made special and wont even be completed until late august/early september. at which time i will sell my piggyback, turbo, upipe, downpipe and most likely full exhaust.

i dont know how much i want. i was looking for opinions on whats its worth.

well the more I think about it the more I like the idea of an upgraded intercooler even if I'm stock otherwise, I have no I idea if I will get hassled on my warranty with this, but I will look at buying your intercooler as soon as I sell my tires to JC hopefully he wants them still we talked on thurs, 15th about him buying them. Used spearco(they make pretty decent intercoolers right?) intercoolers are going for around 400. I would give yah 450(I'm guessing you want like 700?, I don't know how much used M2 intercoolers go for), sorry if that's really too low but I really dont need this intercooler, I would just be a nice investment in longer turbo life right? If I spend more than 450 I'm thinking I should just get an exhaust setup going b/c I really want a better sound, and I know you can get some decent gains on stock with just exhaust. Unless you think your intercooler will give me just as good or better gains, I have no idea what your awesome intercooler would do for my stock setup. You can probably sell it on ebay for more, cause I couldn't find any M2's on ebay.

Not to fuck up Phil's sale :?, but larger intercoolers on the stock turbo increase lag w/o any real power gains. If the M2 is any larger than the STi IC, it might be too much.

However, since it's a top mount it shouldn't kill the stock turbo the way a FMIC would, but I'd suggest buying it only if you're planning on going to a bigger turbo eventually.

actually, i hate to not fuck up my sale, however the stock and sti pieces are tube and fin design, which increases backpressure and turbo lag. the m2 piece in question is a bar and plate design which decreases lag and inhances performance becauses of the fact that it flows about twice as much as air, and cools it about 40% more effectively.

the only way to cause more lag would be to get a front mount with tube and fin design, ala' the worst of both designs. then you would be really fucked into a corner. however most front mounts are bar and plate, so that doesnt happen.

on another note, i couldnt let it go for that cheap, sorry. not with everything that would go with it. yes you would void your warranty if you installed this product or anything like it, as it changes the flow charectaristics of the intake manifold. therefore voiding the entire engine warranty. this doesnt sound like a good mod for you. maybe just an sti top mount would be better.

I never realized the actual design plays a part in the lag characteristics. I thought the biggest factor in the lag was simply the volume of the IC. Basically a big IC needs a big turbo, or you'd have to wait for the little turbo to presurize it. Esp. the FMIC's since you have to push all that air along the pipes to and from the IC. I figured bar/plate vs tube/fin would simply change the effectiveness of the cooling, and not have much of an effect on flow. Interesting stuff!
