re: the Snell ratings...
M = motorcycle - designed to protect you in a single big impact SA = autoracing - designed to protect you from multiple impacts, as encountered in a rolling vehicle. May also have a fire safety requirement, but I don't remember for sure. SCCA requires M or SA ratings. I would suggest an SA2000 helmet, as it will also meet many other requirements (like NASA and RFR's school, etc.) However, the M helmets are usually much cheaper. Also, for autocross, an open face helmet is probably more comfortable, but may not be legal for higher levels of motorsports. <- has a closed face Biefe SA2000 helmet, but wants an open face helmet as well for those hot autocross days.

Ummm, does anybody have the SCCA rules on helmets, I cannot get my adobe acrobat to work right so I can't read the rules! If somebody could help me out with what is, and is not allowed (dot, snell, sa, rating) That'd really great!

I believe either Snell SA2000 or M2000 helmets are acceptible. Open face is recomended over closed face.
