there was a porsche(silver 911?) behind me. When we were passing the semi's he would wait unitl I was about to go(pass) and I would kick it into 4th and start hauling and he would be RIGHT on my ass, and he gave me a thumbs up. After the pass he hung back a bit, he was just cool about gunning it with me keeping up and stuff.

you gotta love the car people, just wanting to have fun, no ego.

Dude. you can't do any worse than I did on Sunday, I mean shit. Seriously though no one really cares how good you do unless you BEAT them. A lot of those people could care less what your times were.

And for me, it's not about doing good. It's about having FUN, and getting a nice run or time is just an added bonus. 5 years from now no one will remember you got a horrible time auto-x run.

And, It really blows the mind of the some of the hardcore people when I tell them I'm there to have fun. I mean why the hell would you want to have fun when you have to beat all these other car's times. But you can have fun and be competitve I have nothing against that, but some of the guys think there is something wrong with just having a good time while being completely out of the running for a top time, some of them can't serperate the two.

One guy was being kinda jerky(matt you know who) when I told him the only reason I'm in a divsion called STX is b/c of my 17in wheels. He tried to convince to go to a stock class by taking my wheels off and using the stock ones. He theory was that why should I even bother in the STX class unless I have all the stuff to go with it like sway bars and springs and shit. I just told I was there to have fun and he looked at me like I was crazy.

BTW the guy in the above example was in the stock class with a Silver WRX, MAtt if I'm not mistaken he was able to chrip his tires coming around the U-turn going into second, can a stock WRX with a straight pipe muffler do that? Or do we even care about that? I know we thought he might be running a gutted up-pipe and likely a re-flash. I really wonder if though Vegas guys have ever REALLY checked his car.

I am almost convinced that the silver WRX was running a chip and at least an upppipe. It was making gobs of power, moreso than John's Yellow WRX, which was in the same class. The silver one just sounded different, and like you said, it was frying all 4 tires. :?

You can thank Theo's daughter(s) for these awesome action shots of me and matt and theo in and around the slalom. She did a great job I basically handed her my camera told her where the take picture button was and she did good, you gotta love these technologically savy kids nowadays, if it's electronic they can most likely handle it with no problem. And in the lower pic with Theo's car there IS a camera on top on it. Here:
You can see at the top of the link below where it says Hawthrone Videos here, I guess he will get them up there pretty soon. I saw some of the video on his camera and it was so cool looking, Like riding through the course.

All I can say is.... way to represent for Reno!! Especially telling those Vegas boys we're about fun over times.

I tried my best to beat the crap outta Vegas itself while I was down there, but that town in hard-core... I think we'll have to call it a draw. One of Vegas' strippers bite our buddy in the ass... twice... left bruises and teeth marks.... how's he gonna explain that to his woman...

Nice pix taken by all!
(What's the one of the rock surface?)

Some of the best things about this weekend were
1) gaining confidence in my car's ability - shooting through the triangle and back through the slalom at 70+mph,
2) no dnf's -- no off's in the dirt --
3) camaraderie, meeting some new people
4) good subaru representation
5) I wasn't stuck at registration all day
6) didn't get sunburned
7) it didn't rain while I was working the 2-hour run group

Things that had room for improvement were
a) some people's attitudes; i.e. the poor sport who threw off his helmet after a run;
b) hitting cones,
c) forgetting to put on insect repellent on Sat.
d) long day on Sat., no time for Sat. pool party,
e) mess from all the bugs that hit my car going around Walker Lake

My only incident was the screw in my race tire, thankfully it was after my Sat. runs and Sid took care of it before my Sunday runs. Thanks you guys for noticing it!

Well if we could have seen an accurrate boost gauge on his car, during a run. like if he had one in his car, which I doubt he did, then we could have seen if he was making full boost in 1st and 2nd gear which is a pretty clear indication of a re-flash, right?

He was way up there in the pax time wasn't he? Like 3rd? I mean that's really fast(from the last two events I went to), I'm sure he's a pretty good driver also, but still. We'll never know.

People were throwing helmets!?! At an autocross!!? Jees... it's not like this is Winston Cup and somone just ran you off the track ending your day, or like your IHRA dragster threw a piston in the finals. It's autocross for pete's sake. BTW: if you spike your helmet, it needs to be inspected by the manufacturer before being put back into use.

I just hope it wasn't anyone from our region.

I kinda would have felt bad if my driving would have made Reno Region lose, I'm not sure how serious people take it. I wish I could do runs without having to be timed and in a class and all that.

Everyone who ran with us, including those people who dnf'd all of their runs (there were a few on Sat. and maybe 1 or 2 on Sun.) still helps our club. It helps to grow the club, strengthens bonds, and it helps all of us become better drivers.

Anyone can run for no points (it's called RNP - on pink cards), but the fun is in the competition and chasing each other, and everyone getting better as a result. Last year I had no competition in my class, so I resorted to 'chasing the boys' times in DStock. This year with Patty in my class, while she keeps getting 1st and I'm behind her, I think the chase is helping me go faster and drive cleaner.

Should I run RNP then? Since I have't run in any events yet? Or does it matter?
