Recently, I have been getting stop messages from Windows XP(stop: 0x0000007). It happens everytime I view a video file over the internet. This problem never happens when I watch a movie that is stored to the hard drive. It has been getting worse, to the point that I cant watch 10 seconds worth without getting a bluescreen. I uninstalled media player 10 and reinstalled, but nothing. Dell recommended that I reinstall windows, but I would like to avoid the hassle. Anyone?

Need more than just the stop... What module is proably the most important.
It is possibly your NIC configuration/driver... First all the standard questions? Are you current on Windows updates including SP2? Current Anti-Virus defs & Anti-Spyware?

Norton 2005 anti-virus/internet security, windows firewall, and spybot. Also have regsekker to clean out the registry.

I'm afraid that as much as you don't want to go through the hassle, reinstalling Windows is probably your best bet. If you could isolate the file causing the crashes (probably a DLL or VXD), it's possible that simply replacing that file would fix the problem. However, since the error message doesn't include any info on what file is causing the crash, you are likely to spend a great deal of effort attempting to locate the culprit.... more than simply reinstalling Windows/apps/data fresh.
Plus, with a fresh install of Windows, a lot of cruft will get removed so the system should be a bit snappier.

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;253798 I know the page says this applied to WMP 7 but I've seen a lot of pages that say errors don't apply to newer releases when, in fact, they do ![]() |
