Winter wheel/tire setup for an '05 STi?
Alright my friend in Chicago is trying to pick a winter setup for his car. Keep in mind he doesn't have tons of money to blow. Probably not much more than a grand for the wheels alone. He's leaning toward Falken 512s on some Rota Torques from subydude. I think he should get the all seasons on his stock BBS and get real Work Emotions come next summer and put his RE070s on those. He think its stupid to run his forged wheels in the winter though. Ideas? His car is black if that helps in wheel selection.

There is no reason not to run forged wheels in the winter, is there?
Anyways, if money is an issue, I don't see a problem with getting all seasons now, saving the tires and mounting up a real set of wheels next winter with the 070's.

Ya but Emotions aren't forged are they? Just the idea of running non-forged summer and forged winter is what gets him I think. He has the money to do it now, I just meant no Volks or anything because he doesn't have a shit load of money to blow on rims and tires.

Emotions come as cast and forged. If he's look at the sub $2k set, those ones are cast (or semi-forged or whatever).

There are some MB Motorsport(A-Tech) 17s that I'm not sure fit, but are cheap, and offset 48-50 on Discount Tire's site. I didn't see teh 8" weapon in a 5x114.3, but didn't look very hard. That gets him a set of $400-$600 wheels, and then throw on some of the Hankook W300 performance snows... Also very cheap... Under $1000 for the whole setup delivered I bet.
