Mud Meet in carson!
Hello everyone !
So does anyone know some really good spots to drive around on dirt/mud around carson ? i know there are 2 small lots near Costco , one of them has really fine soil (not too likely to kill your paint / rims) . would be fun to meet up. maybe take a few vids of peeps sliding around. discuss and practice techniques for low traction surfaces. esp if some peeps know of good dirt / gravel roads that don't require much ground clearance, and are not likely to have a lot of rocks to fly up and chip paint / rims. its raining up here, not sure if its raining down in carson at all. if so could make for some fun mud .... me ! (thinking maybe tonight, er this week ? i dunno) |

Considering the poor cosmetic state of my car, I'd be down. Dunno anywhere close though that has flat non-abrasive roads. Maybe on the east side of 395 by Best Buy? I dunno.

Yeah there are some dirt roads around there. the traffic light Between 50 up to tahoe, and wallmart, if you go (east) away from best buy. you end up on some nice dirt roads, those are a lil suspension jarring (no major ruts or rocks) but there is a fair amount of small rock / gravel in those dirt roads.. (i'm not tooo fearful of paint damage, already have 1 rim pitted out and some scratches on my running boards) would prefer all sand / no rocks. but hey
too bad mapquest or what not does not label dirt / un paved roads. i know of 1 longer dirt road that wold be cool to rally on, but its Rough, and lots of pebbels on it . (out near the alpine county airport) -that's a fun place to take your car up to 100, 120, etc. when i get some cones and i can mark off where is 150 meters for breaking i'm gonna try to take my car up tot he govoner there. (if there is one anyone know the top speed for an 05 ? ) |

Hate to rain on your parade, but the Sheriff's department makes routine visits to that airport. They have had many cars go off the end of the runway doing exactly what you are thinking of doing. I went and talked with the airport authority about getting a special use permit so that we could do a track day test and tune senario out there.
A friend of mine and another guy ran off the end of the runway go very fast. Their vehicle ended up at the bottom of the ravine behind the ruinway. Luckily they didn't get hurt, but it did start a fire. Let me put it this way, they got into a lot of trouble.

UH OH , :O spotted. lol yarr
aparently they didn't set up any sort of cones, to indicated when they needed to hit the brakes , which is why i would set up some cones before attempting that, and yeah i was thinking of doing exactly that. i've already been out there a few times i went to one end and rougly measured the distance with the trip meter and knew after .3 hundreds that it was past a 1/4 mile and , that i'de need to hit the brakes. (that has you brakes WAY early ) but better safe then sorry. sucks that the coppers go out there, it looks like its public use land though? a park. so my thinking was that since its not a public highway / roadway i wouldn't be able to get a speeding ticket , while driving fast on the run way. (damn cops should consider how far i'm going out of my way to NOT be a public threat) should be able to live dangerously , we are in america right ? lol maybe the constitution got revoked i haven't been watching the news really. but yeah that's me, so what color is your STI ? i've probably seen you driving around too. eeks. so you could get into trouble just for driving on the closed, now public lands airport ? (or is it actually still open) ?? everything i could find info wise says its a public park now ... (i could be very wrong though) way better to find out before i get the coppers on me. however i am WAY Bummed to hear what i thought was legal, may not be. Reckless driving is reckless driving. Hell, I bet there's a loop hole that would let them stop you from driving like that on your own property if they really wanted to.
We really should look into finding out what it would take to sanction an event there... the SCCA could always use another place to race!

ya it would have to be a 1/4 mile only race. Unless You wanted to include the '4wd road' (name of it on mapquest) as part of the course. and its dirt with gravel, some ruts and rocks that i slowed down to about 1 mph to ride over ... basically you probably don't want to race on it unless you want to really work your shocks, and wheels, maybe paint too .
i guess i should find the legal definition of wreckless. ethically and logically its not wreckless driving if there is no other persons, or property to damage. I own my own life and should be able to do what the hell i want as long as i don't harm others or put them in any risk. if the law is written in the usual Statist - nazi style, ya its probably any time you go more then 20 mph over (it may state on a public road ) and an airport is not a public road. okay here is the law. i think i'm in the clear NRS 484.377 Reckless driving; penalty for willful or wanton disregard for safety causing death or substantial bodily harm; additional penalties. 1. It is unlawful for a person to: (a) Drive a vehicle in willful or wanton disregard of the safety of persons or property. (b) Drive a vehicle in an unauthorized speed contest on a public highway. if its not public highway, and i've taken specific care to insure there are no persons or property to damage. its not illegal. the cops can go do something useful like preventing some theft or a violent crime it may be tresspassing (which would definatly make me certain its not a public highway) and tresspassing is like $60 missdonminear, shit i'll take 1 per day to drive 100 legally wooooot ! full NV wreckless driving law (sounds rather reasonable as there has to be someone in harms way- not sure if they count the driver- they shouldn't)
http://www.leg.state.nv.us/NRS/NRS-4...l#NRS484Sec377 NRS 484.377 Reckless driving; penalty for willful or wanton disregard for safety causing death or substantial bodily harm; additional penalties. 1. It is unlawful for a person to: (a) Drive a vehicle in willful or wanton disregard of the safety of persons or property. (b) Drive a vehicle in an unauthorized speed contest on a public highway. Ê A violation of this subsection or subsection 1 of NRS 484.348 constitutes reckless driving. 2. Unless a greater penalty is provided pursuant to subsection 4 of NRS 484.348, a person who does any act or neglects any duty imposed by law while driving or in actual physical control of any vehicle in willful or wanton disregard of the safety of persons or property, if the act or neglect of duty proximately causes the death of or substantial bodily harm to a person other than himself, is guilty of a category B felony and shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for a minimum term of not less than 1 year and a maximum term of not more than 6 years, or by a fine of not more than $5,000, or by both fine and imprisonment. 3. Ha Ha! You scare me with your willingness to bash the hell out of your STI! Shit, if I had one, which I cannot afford, I think I'd be standing by it all night with a shotgun to keep people from leaving me door dings! Def. not flying down dirt roads at a hundred mph!
More power to you dude! Just be careful! I'd hate to hear that you binned it flying down some by-road somewhere!

You're comfortable bashing up a $32,000 car like that? Damn. Mine barely cost me $17,000 and I have a little fit every time I get a new ding. My latest are paint chips on the hood and a chip in the windshield (I was attacked on i80 to Sac by a vicious Californian Flying Rock).

Who said anything like crashing ? tell me, if you don't think its possible to drive the sti at say 70, or 100 with out crashing, why do you want to buy one ? just stay with the RS 2.5 .
i dunno, there are 2 ways to look at it. 1) you made a 32K investment and its your precious, nothing bad must happen to it, keep it garaged, with a car cover and don't drive it in any adverse conditions (snow ,dirt, RAIN) . the org owner of my car was that way . no rain driving... 2) you just spent 32K you better get every last pennies worth of enjoyment, drive it fast and hard, drive it on snow, dirt, wet tarmac, Enjoy the worlds best AWD system in actual low traction envoirnments. some peeps are #1, some are #2. some are a blend. sounds like you are a #1 nothing wrong with that. to each his own. if all i was worried about was the $$$ i would have bought like 10K of gold 3 months ago (which would be 12,500 today) and kept my wrx. but i'de rather spend that cash on enjoyment, which means driving on snow / dirt / wet tarmac, and as fast as is safe to me and to others. ( you may not be able to guess this about me, but i just bare ever ever ever go over 25 in a residential. kids and peeps walking about) get into a much safer setting and i'll go faster. or maybe you are basically saying i can't control my car , at least you speak your mind. freedom of speach baby ! but yer dead wrong lol but stay true to yourself and your opions sometimes i like being told i can't lol what a long rant of mine.. i'm waiting on buddies to go snowboarding with. they don't have an sti and need like 40 minutes to cover 4 miles in the snow ARG |

btw i'm not saying i burn every last dollar i have. i save about 24% of my income for retirement, pay bills, pay taxes, then i burn the rest (gas, oil, tires, video games, etc) and lately its cheaper to just burn ones than gas to heat my apt

If I had been in the market for a new car in '04 let's say, then I would have ended up with a rex, because I couldn't afford an STI, and wouldn't have bought an RS looking like that! If I'm gonna drive an ugly car, it better at least be turbo! (No offense Jeremiah!) Hey, call me Shallow Hal.
