If you are gonna go off, go off straight or at least as straight as possible.
You can tell he knew it was going to happen, but he tried to keep it on course, and went off sideways. He might even have been able to keep it out of the wall if he had straightened it out and hit the brakes. I personally have had experionce both as a driver and instructor in similar situations, and going straight with both feet in allowed us to drive away basically unscathed except maybe or pride and our shorts. 8^) It is also a good reminder that if you partake in this sport for any lenght of time, YOU WILL CRASH! Knock on wood, the worst I've done so far is back my A4 into the tire wall at turn three at Sears Point. No real damage, just green paint on my right rear quarter that rubbed out and a big gouge in my ego. This is also why you should check you Insurance policy for exclusions. Some policies now exclude driver education events like NASA HPDEs and SCCA Street Schools. don't do business with these companies. Autocross... Well, because of the way they are run, there is very little risk, but there is some, and depending on your policies exclusions, you may not be covered. Technically Autocross is competition, and some policies key on that word. I am not a lawyer, or an insurance agent, so do your own homework, and make your own informed decision. Whatever you do, don't even think about lying to your insurance company. The last thing you want is to be in jail for insurance fraud. All of these are some of the reasons I have a basically "dedicated" track car. If I hurt it somehow, I won't be nearly as unhappy as if I hurt my much more expensive street cars. Yes, the Stealth was cheap before upgrades, and they haven't been that bad. Well maybe... 8^) Used Miatas make great track cars. Nothing will teach you how to conserve momentum than a light underpowered car, and if you get serious, you can turn them into Spec Miatas, and go door to door racing... OK, I'm getting down of my soap box now... |

Hey Dean, what kinda modification would i need to do to a Miata to get me to fit? Would just a racing shell gain me the 10 inches of additional leg room I need, or am I cutting the fram and welding in a wheel base extension and a new drive shaft?

What the hell was that nimrod doing, practicing his "Kansei drift" style or some other such crap? If not then that was some of the worst driving I've ever seen. "Drifting" is all good for anime make-believe and exhibitions but it's definitely not the fast way around a paved racetrack. It's also dangerous when you're around other cars due to the lack of control, and has no place in actual racing. Hate to see someone's car torn up needlessly, but he had it coming driving like that.

I bet we could fit Scott in a Miata with a race seat. 10* layback, and a pad ill put you about 1" from the rear cheat metal, not he 6"+ the sock seat has.
With a stripped interior like a spec miata, you get even more room. |
