Default Cam install?

Does anyone know how to install cams? I'm thinking of just bitching out and having a shop do it because I'm afraid of grenading my new motor. Any suggestions on who to take it to?

I replaced the cam shaft on my old '75 Volvo. I removed both manifolds (intake, exhaust), the head, timing gear cover, and the radiator. I pulled most of the lifters, or at least got them lodged sticking out of their hole from the top if they wouldn't come out, extracted the cam shaft from the front and then pushed the remaining lifters down into the oil pan (obviously make sure you get all of them completely out of there). Then reverse.

I also had the head resurfaced and the valves ground while it was out.

I have no idea if that helps, but it is nostalgic for me to remember. I couldn't believe it when it started right up.

Changing cams isn't hard just a matter of being thorough and making sure everything is lined up. That being said, it is a good Idea to take it to a reputable machine shop and have them make sure that the followers (the little pucks that sit on the buckets that sit on the valve springs) are within specs. Cheap insurance to avoid valve noise or worse.....

I also changed a cam in a Volvo, although it was a b21ft (turbo motor) and an IPD "turbo' cam.
