I poached the action from outside the fence. You're much closer to the planes there. The F-18 demo plane broke the sound barrier about 100 yards in front of me - BOOM!!!! - he's not supposed to do that (sorry - no decent pics).

Really? That shit can blow out windows for days... The announcer even said that the pilot would be in big doo doo if he did that. He said he was doing the fly by at about 690 mph... which still leaves room til he breaks the sound barrier.

But thanks for the pictures guys!

He had just done the fly-by past the stands and was going into a full-throttle dead-vertical climb right in front of me. I think he got on the throttle too hard too early and POW! - sounded like a nearby cannon.

The F-16's also came right overhead at about 600mph - but only 50'-100' up. The nearby powerlines vibrate and the air makes a weird hissing sound for about 30 seconds afterward.

I dont think he broke the sound barrier, he probably just hit the afterburners. Like was said before, he could be in major trouble had he done that.

I took pics also:

Sunday:
1: Waving to the crowd.

2-51 x2 takeoff.

3:This may be the last flight of this F4 at Reno. It may be turned into a target drone.

4:Michael Goulian (Castrol) vs. Scott Hammack (AFR Jet Car), this was his last time driving the car.

5:F-18 Just before the sound barrier.

6:USAF Thunderbirds F-16's buzzing the tower.

7:Hey! Thanks for cutting me off.

8:Gene Soucy (Pilot)/Teresa Stokes(Wing Walker) in a move they call the "Flying Lady"

Thats just 8 of about 125, which you can find HERE

Thursday:
F4: Sounded great, louder than the F16, but quieter than the F15.

F15 Eagle: This thing sounded amazing, shakes you to your bones.

I liked this picture, it seemed to make the F15 look even more evil.

F16: The quietest (if you can say that lol) of the 3. They (the Thunderbirds) were just doing a survey flight today, the next few days they will do the formations.

I have more from qualifing, but this should do for now

Awesome. I'm gonna browse through your pics later, but did you happen to get any pics of the F-15s kicking up dust at the end of the runway?

Also: No Saab pics?!

Ok, I didn't take many of the Saabs, because I was saving space/battery for the planes, but here are 5 that turned out halfway decent:

I got yelled at so many times while in Tech School for looking at the Thunderbirds on the flight line while marching to class

I miss the Air Races a lot. The flight line here on Ramstein is so boring!

Great pictures DARKSTI!

Man, F-15s are so hot..

E or C. Looks single seater to me, but which..?

Sorry, I left behind the aspirations of being crew chief to one awhile ago..

..all this reminds me, though..

I got to see a B-1B repeatedly (also sequentially) breaking sound on a really humid day, and really, really (extremely - how much more can a empahsize?) low altitude last summer.. Little puff-puff cotton ball thunder..

Damn me for not having the camera that day (or the battery was dead or some such nonsense..).

It's either an A, B, or C. The D and E variants are the two seaters, as those are the ones to which they added air-to-ground and all weather capabilities.

It's probably a C, since I think all the older A's and B's would have been retrofitted to C-specs by now.

The F-15 is a sweet plane... before the D came out, they used to say "Not a pound for air-to-ground"... it was truely an air seperiority fighter... probably the last one we'll ever make. Now days, if it can't do both, it's inefficient. But with planes like the SuperHornet and F-22, and of course the late model F-15's, you can have air superiority *and* a capable attack platform.

/me loves him some military aircraft.

According to the Wiki, the 2nd seat was for training only. No weapons systems from the rear seat, and was used in an air-superiority role w/o a second crew member.

But yeah, you'd certainly be able to see seat #2 in the pictures, making the plane in pics an A or C. Also the Wiki mentions that the ANG is flying F15-A's still, so if it's a National Guard plane, it's probably an A.
