Last weekend I noticed that my front pads were almost dead. I ordered another set of Porterfield R4-S's but they won't be here for a week or two. So I'm thinking I'll throw on my stock fronts which have plenty of meat on them.
The rotors are the originals. When I put the Porterfield's on a year ago, they were pretty flat, but now they are slightly grooved from normal use. I don't get any pulsing at all though. They feel great. So my first question is, should I get the rotors turned? And if so, should I get them turned before reinstalling the stock pads or right before installing the Porterfields (which may not happen until Spring depending on how I like the stockers)? 2ndly, Any local place that will do a good job without breaking the bank? They'd need to be open Saturday too. |

I need to do this too, I have noticed a lil grind now and again on the right front, I need to break down and buy some new pads, and I imagine get the rotors turned. I don't know if I want to get new slotted rotors, or turn them...or buy an 07 damn the choices.

Just re-bed them, but not too aggressively. They might squeak a little, but they'll be fine. When the new pads arrive, bed them in too. If you don't have major deposits on your rotors from working the old pads way too hard, you'll be fine.

Yes, they can be turned.
What is almost dead? A couple 32nds can last an entire winter. How deep are the grooves? As long as you have a little pad left, I'd just wait for the new pads and get the rotors turned then. If they are gone, throw the stockers in and they will wear to match the contours of the disk after some noise. Should be OK until spring, or whenever you want to put the new pads in. Sid can do them and you might check with BCT.

I never turn my rotor if there is no deep groove. Just bed them with the new pad you should be fine.

Cool, sounds like I don't really need to worry about turning them. I'll just lightly bed in whichever pads I end up throwing on there. Thanks.

Don't forget the MattR rule of bedding in brakes...
1. The smoke means they're working.

Hahaha, oddly enough, it's at 33k with a lot of hard driving on track and autox, and it runs like a champ. I like to think that I get the most out of the wearable parts? ![]()

don't worry about it it's only the brakes.
oh and on a more serious note, most autopart stores turn rotors. and if you trust them, it's cheaper than paying a shop to do the whole job for you. |
