Default Cheap A/S tires found...

Here's a couple of deals I found while browsing today, just thought I'd share.

http://www.tires-easy.com/start.html

Can't direct link on their site, so look for these...

Kumho ASX 235/40/17 for $45.50 each ($88 at TR)

Bridgestone Potenza 960 A/S 205/55/16 for $56.10 each ($108 on TR)

I just ordered a set of the Bridgestones for my wife's Camry for next summer, so I guess we'll see if it's a mistake. Seems to good to be true at those prices.

Yeah, I ordered a set of Kumhos for cheap winters. Can always do a chargeback if it's shady, but the place seems to have some decent reviews for the UK arm, at least.

Can't hurt to try for 260 shipped......

I have the ASXs on the A4, and they work pretty well for an A/S. Good bang for the buck and decent performance.

Would these be good for my 03 Outback wagon? I need new tires and I just want some mid range all season tires. I don't go up in the snow very much but do drive around Reno, to Fernley and back a lot. I've been seeing good things about Kumho tires.

The size would be wrong (and it's only that size that's cheap). Kumhos are what I would classify as "fine" tires. Not great, not crappy, just decent. You can find better, but at that price in my correct size I figured I'd try it.

Either of the tires would be a good choice, but not in the sizes posted for WRXs. They will be a little small for your Outback. The 03 OB comes with 225/60/16, so you should probably get the same size tires.

Thanks! I will get the correct size. Just trying to pick a brand amongst all the ones out there is hurting my poor little brain. Somone at D & D Tire told me that Kumhos are cheap and he wouldn't recommend them. Said he's seen them wear out too soon and fall apart. Crap.

For the price, I like Kuhmo tires. Depending on the compound, they can be soft and wear somewhat quickly, but that doesn't mean they are 'cheap' in the pejorative sense, they are just 'cheap' in the inexpensive sense.

For the price I like them too. Ray's Tire Exchange has the 225 60R16 Kumho at $73 ea., not bad.

The Bridgestone 960 A/S is available from tires-easy.com in 225/60/16 as well. $56 each, which is a steal compared to Tirerack's prices on them. Tirerack reviews have that tire as the #1 UHPAS tire.

That's tempting, but I'm looking for a quick in and out. I ran over something that left a nice 2" gash in my rear tire so I have the little spare on right now. No patience or time to wait for shipping. Besides, they have been very helpful and patient with me at Ray's so I think I'll give them my business. Works for me!

If the tread on the other 3 are good, you can just replace the one tire with an identical tire, either new or used. You just need to be within a few 32nds of an inch of tread depth. You may be able to find a used one that matches this criteria for about $20-$25 from Hooten, Rays, or one of the other used tire places.

You can also shave a new or used to the right depth.

$73 is not a bad price. They are $64 at TireRack. You can use that as leverage. That is probably where they are buying them for $50 something each wholesale.

TR warehouse is in Sparks, and you can pick them up there and take them anywhere for installation if you want. Sid has been known to match TR price if you ask and mention Debbie. Don't mention me, you'll pay extra.

Kumho makes a darn fine tire for the price. Had ASX's for 20k mi and 2 winters, they did just fine and performed better than their price tag for me. Had SPT for a short time also. Would buy again.

Cody! ;-P

Unfortunately, time for new tires all around anyway, still has the original Bridgestone Potenzas on it and they're really worn. This was just the thing I needed to get my a** in gear and get to it, so it's sort of a blessing in disguise, as they say. Excellent suggestion on the leverage Dean, I think I'll use that.

Just got a note from them (a week later, heh) written in "ze germans" english stating they were out of the kumhos and had no restock date. I asked them if they'd offer any similar all-seasons at a similar price, but i'm sure it'll just get cancelled. Oh well.

I got the same thing, except they told me they only had 3 tires in stock. So I told them to ship me three, supposedly they will ship Wednesday. Definitely don't expect much at this point, but if I do get three then I'll just buy one from Tire rack and still save some cash. We'll see what happens I guess, so far I'm not thrilled with their service.
