Default Siping tire at Les Schwab???

I went looking for a set of tires for my wife minivan. They quote me with a siping (~$50/set). The machine making small 90 degree cuts in the tread. It suppose to get better traction, smoother ride and last longer. Any body done this? I might buy a set from tire rack and go see Sid.

In my experience, siping never made a tire last longer, if anything, it promotes more wear. It will improve your wet and ice traction, but overall, I don't think it's necessary

If you want Sipping for snow/ice traction, buy a set of snow tires.

This thread has some stuff and links back to the 2005 data which were the last serious test I am aware of. Maybe TR has done some more recently. Go look. A spare set of steelies should be ultra cheap.

Don't do it. Its one of those things that they try to sell to women. They play the emotional card to get the ladies to pay for something totolly not worth it.
