I just wanted to give a shout out to Tom and the guys at IA. They recently did a 06STI 6 speed swap into my 06WRX a couple weeks ago and did a fantastic job. They even cleaned up a few things I did not have installed correctly on the car previously (guages, exhaust ect.). They did the whole swap, new clutch kit, short throw and 3.54 rear diff and I couldn't be happier with the results. Props to Independent Automotive for being the best Suby mechanics in the Reno / Sparks area.

No kidding? I've had Indy Auto do work on my car in the past, but only "normal" stuff, not wierd stuff like out of model tranny swaps.

You think they'd do something like say a 6MT into an SVX? There's a bit of fabrication work required...

I don't know how far out of the box they are willing to go but in my instance I did my homework, brought them most of the parts and they didn't hesitate to tackle the job, they were even excited to do it and took alot of pride in the project getting most of thier employees behind it including the owner Mr. Cox. Tom is a master Subaru tech and said the 6 speed STI into 06WRX swap went very smooth. It even included changing out the rear diff to match the 3.54 ratio. They used the STI driveshaft by simply changing out the companion flange (which meant no drilling or using an auto DS), put in all new axle seals, circlips, oil side seals in the rear diff and hooked up the electrical part of the trans. (no DCCD yet, going with spiider). There are no leaks, my reverse lights work and everything is peachy. I know of a guy who had them put some RA gears in his 5- speed as well. I am only posting this because there are probably lots of locals who want stronger gears and don't want to send there trans off to Andrewtech or DS1. I think this shop could be a valuable asset to our community as they are very knowledgable on our Subarus and know how to do the job correctly, quickly and reasonably priced with great attention to detail and customer satisfaction. I took the gamble and am very impressed with Independent Auto and their love for Subarus, heck they all drive WRX's too. I am looking forward to working with them as much as possible I mean, why not. Lithia is just not an option.

Do you possess the constitution and faith to go as far as needed?
Default a few years ago

They actually have done a 5mt swap into a SVX....it was a red one that I always inquired about and they were asking 5k for it and I didn't have the money to buy it......tom is a nice guy and him and the mechanics there know their shit about subies.......Kinda expensive for some parts, but I would rather give the extra money to him instead of Lithia !!!!!!!
