Hey folks, I'm looking for a set of 5x100 wheels for use on the wife's Outback for snow tires. We'd prefer something OEM... stock legacy/outback/impreza wheels. I believe only 17" wheels will clear the Outback Sedan's brakes... someone correct me if I'm wrong.
We'll even consider stock steel wheels w/ the wheel covers if the price is right. Let me know if anyone's looking to get rid of some stock wheels!

If the brakes are the same as the Legacy GT brakes, you'll need 17" wheels. I think there is a short list of 16" wheels that work, but none of them are OEM.

Wouldn't you have the same clearance issues as the 4/2 pot '06-'07 WRX brakes? Or do the legacy's have the "H6" brakes?
There's a thread on Nasioc, and another on ClubWRX that I've found looking for info on the same - trying to get cheap 16" wheels to put snow tires on the wagon. This any help: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2055081 ? |

The Legacy doesn't have the monoblock 4pots, but sliding caliper 2 pots that are roughly the same size as the pre-06 WRX (although not exactly the same). The problem with the Legacy GT (and probably the Outback brakes) is not actually the caliper size, but the disk size. The 12" disk pushes the calipers out pretty far.

Gotcha - I knew they didn't have the same calipers, but also knew the H6 rears was common for pre-05 Imprezas, so I was under the impression they were larger than WRX.
So, I have caliper clearance issues, y'all have diameter clearance issues. So, I'm no help at all. ![]() |

Starting in '05, the Legacy/Outback started coming with much bigger brakes all around. Bigger even than the sliding 2-pot WRX brakes of the same era. Either way, I need some 17" OEM wheels to clear 'em. ![]()

I thought the rear H6 upgrade was a larger diameter, solid rotor. That's why the upgrade is possible by just using the Outback caliper brackets and rotors with the stock RS/WRX calipers.

I could be mistaken. I never really looked into the H6 stuff because I upgraded to the R180. But I could have sworn the rotors were ventilated. A larger diameter solid rotor would barely up the heat capacity of the system. At best you'd just be shifting the brake bias rearward, which I guess would be better, but not by much.

But seriously, I thought about pinging MattR for those gram lights he's been trying to sell, but I just don't want to spend a bunch on wheels that Lisa isn't into that much. I think she just wants to keep it stock-ish.

This is correct. The old Legacy turbo rears were not much bigger, but were vented.

Also, confirming H6 was just bigger. I put '05 GT brakes on the rear of my car, they're as big or bigger than the H6 rears and they're vented, though only barely. The vent channel is no more than 3/32" wide.

Bump! No one's got a set of OEM 17" wheels they want to sell? Where's Jake... doesn't he have some stock 17" steel wheels from his Impreza?

I'm somewhat considering getting rid of the OE '07 WRX seven spokes. Have 215/45 all seasons with camber/toe wear on the rears (poor alignment before I bought it). Been considering 16" steelies for snows or snows on the Rotas and RPF1s for summer.
Interested? What would they be worth to you? |
