I agree, there has to be unmetered air coming in somewhere. Unless my O2 sensor is bad, but tests good?? I checked all the hoses, vacuum lines, we tried plugging the BPV as well, even put a new one on. I'm gonna do another test run now...

Double checked. A/F ratio while going 70mph is at 14.4:1, correction factor stayed between -.75 and 2. I'm confused...

I just cleaned my IAC and my idles a lot better. You should try it for a cheap fix and you don't even need to remove anything to get to it.

Oh and make sure all the hose clamps are straight on the intercooler hoses. I know that I have put some on crooked by mistake when in a rush or late at night.

I just cleaned the IAC and put a new gasket in. It was dirty, but it still idles the same. I have checked and double checked all the hose connections, there all good. Is it possible to change the idle tables? I don't even know if they exist.

There are no "idle tables" that I know of. The MAF table could be rigged to make it run better, but that is a bandaid, and as soon as the problem is found and fixed you will start running -25 fuel trim and be too rich.

It's not the ECU or the map if it was working well at some point, and especially if you throw a stock air box back on and it still has the same problem.

Put a stock air box on and uninstall the AP and take it to Subaru.

Based on your AF trims, other than unmetered air after the MAF, I'm out of ideas.

My last attempt will be the stock air box. I do not have one here, but will be going home this weekend. I think my air box is there. If it doesn't work, then its off to subaru.

Just found out that I no longer have a stock air box.

Dean, could I grab that stock air box from you and give it a try? If it doesn't have a filter, I can buy one or maybe go to a junk yard and grab one.

So I feel dumb. The stock air box solved all. A/F ratio is right at 14.7 with 0 on the correction factor at idle.

Maybe after cleaning the air filter for a second time (or even third), it was flowing more air and/or creating more turbulance. So the MAF sensor was seeing less air, when more air was actually flowing by. The sensor could not correct enough for the extra air flowing by, therefore running lean. I still don't understand why this would happen after cleaning the MAF?

Thanks for all the support everyone, I appreciate it.

Dean, can I buy your air box off of you? If not, can I keep it until I get a new one? I also may be interested in you TMIC.

Glad that fixed it!

I'd like to get my air box back or a replacement at some point in case I ever take my car back to stock, but no rush.

We probably have somebody who isn't ever going back to stock or you can pick up a used one cheap either locally or from Rancho Cordova.

I thought the stock airbox was one of the first things you tried... or I guess it should have been

That's a weird coincidence or whatever. If you want to still go with a short ram (for whatever reasons) the Cobb acts just like the stock airbox in my experience (except for the whole hot air thing).

My two cents:

Choose a good CAI or the stocker
Choose your filter element
Get custom tuned
Stick with the same filter element when replacing it or cleaning it (often)
Profit

(in that order)

The last time I cleaned the filter was 5000 miles ago. If I had my original stock air box, I probably would have tried that first. Its just weird that the intake would affect idle after 50k+ miles and cleaning the MAF sensor. My guess is that the filter is no good anymore. I will be looking into getting a different intake and a retune eventually. I need to find a stock air box for now.

Anyone know where I can pick up a stock air box? The dealer is way overpriced. I was looking into Cobb's intake, but its made of plastic and I heard it falls apart.

Nasioc classifieds is always an option as well as www.subaruparts.com and www.subarugenuineparts.com

Wreckers in Rancho Cordova or even local are a good bet.

I have a generic in fender CAI lying around. Check this thread.

I might have a stock airbox... or at least one with the silencer cut off it.

Well, if he wants an air box that breathes from under the hood instead of from the fender or the snorkus... then sure. But I've got the elbow from the fender (with the silence cut off it) and the snorkus too I think.
