Car: 2006 WRX Limited MT VF39 Protuned, with Cold Air Box, Sway Bars, Walboro FP, Hallman MBC

Do Work!
Default Excellent Tune by EQ Tuning

I got a tune by Ed on Wednesday and got really great results. I have a 2006 WRX LImited and installed a VF39, STI TMIC, Cobb Turboback and was running the COBB OTS map for the VF39 and it was total crap. I took it to Ed and they installed a Walboro, Colder spark plugs, and a Hallman MBC. Ed and I drove off into completely desolate roads in Fairfield, CA and did about 10-15 pulls and after each one we would pull over and he would adjust the calibration a bit. The car is running about 19 PSI and it is super smooth all the way till 7000 RPMS.

I wanted a conservative tune, so Ed was gentle with it and I ended up with about 250 Horsepower and 271 Torques at-the-wheels. It feels like a completely different car. Awesome.

Ed's shop now does full installs and currently has about 8 STI's that they are doing engine builds on. I am going back in a month or so to have them install a RPS clutch, resurface the flywheel, and clean off my rotors. Ed is the best!

Nice. Have him check out how it runs at this elevation next time he comes up or shoot him a log maybe. I'm sure it's great. He has tons of experience tuning cars at this elevation and at sea level.

Good to hear you finally installed all of that stuff. I may have to give him a try once I get my AP.

Tell me before you do because there needs to be a group before he will drive up here. I need to get my car back on the street first but I have been dying to get a tune. Not even for the hp gains but because of the night and day difference of how smooth the car can be once tuned.

Ed can now use free software to tune your car, no AP required. I believe it's called ECU Edit. So if you don't require map switching or any of the other extra features the AP provides, you might as well save yourelf the money and just pay for a tune alone.

Not if he still sells Cobb products.

That's what I thought (because that's what Ed told me a while back), but then I read this post from him on WRXFanatics yesterday:

I'm still around. Been very busy with opening the new shop and all the excitement associated with it.

To answer the questions, I do offer tuning services without an AccessPort. I use tuning software called EcuEdit which is similar to the OpenEcu tools, but better in many ways. The customer does not need to buy an AP or any license with this, so its a great option for most people.

Thanks
-- Ed
Perhaps it's only the Open Source software that Cobb has stipulated can't be used by tuners who use Protuner software. Obviously, many tuners use both Protuner and ECUTek profesional tuning software. Or maybe Cobb dropped the rule...not sure.

You have to pay for ECU Edit, so I guess technically it is allowed under Cobb's policy.
