So before I dive in to the removal of the front seat to replace or repair the slide rail. Is there anyone who has done it, will I need to do anything about the airbags?

There is a plug that is yellow under the seat clearly visible that you have to unlock. Then take out the 4 mounting bolts and the seat is out.

I stand corrected!! If that label is on there, Tyson is right. You'll have to disconnect a yellow colored airbag harness connector on the bottom of the seat. Best to disconnect the battery first tho. You don't want to plug that connector back in with the batt still hooked up. Possible airbag module/controller failure... they say they can go BOOM, but I've never seen one. Still, why chance it

Good luck pulling the airbag connectore withthe seat still bolted down. It's got a failsafe that makes it a PITA to detach when you can clearly see it, let alone buried under the seat. There's a green tab that has to slide forward, then a tab in back that actually has to come up in order to detach the bag connector. Sometimes it takes 2 seconds, sometimes you cusre at the thing for 20 minutes. Good luck

Yah, that connector sucks! Also, it's easy to scratch your interior with the mounting flanges. Take it out carefully.

I'd unbolt the seat first so you can tilt it and have better access to the connector. Also, make sure the car is off, key out of the ignition. I don't recall if the shop manual suggests removing the positive battery lead or not. You might check the shop manual anyway as it probably says how to do it... It would also tell you how to tighten your rear wing.

^^ standard operating procedure for airbag removal is to disconnect the batt on ALL cars. This is what they teach at least!

Yeah, but isn't there a capacitor backup for the airbag system anyway?

Definately unbolt the seat first. Sybir is correct about that plug. It is a major PIA to undo, even with the seat unbolted.

The capacitor backup is simply in case you get into an accident that doesn't set off the airbags, but DOES disconnect/destroy the battery, and then you get hit AGAIN in the same incident; the airbags will still work if needed. This system only holds charge for a minute or two in an average car tho, so you can actually perform work on the SRS if need be.

Which is why you should step on the brake pedal a few times after disconnecting the battery, make sure all the electricity is out of the system. I've taken my steering wheel off a few times and never had a problem with the airbag, but I always disconnect the battery first.

Yeah I do that, then step on the brake pedal for good measure. I know it probably doesn't do anything, but I read it somewhere a long time ago and have been doing it ever since.

Um, when I took my seats out I just took them out. I did no battery disconnecting. I guess I should have. Better safe then fucked. I remember that fateful night, before the norpac convention, I know scott and matt do also.

Yeah, you could probably yank them out and plug them back in a *million* times and NEVER have anything bad happen, but the fact that there's a POSSIBILITY of deployment frankly scares the shit out of me... BOOM = unhappy Black Cory...
