Question Turbo Removed

OK i got the turbo out and took some pics so everyone can see what it looks like.

It turns out that the downpipe is custom fab and not a flat plate like we (eric & I) thought. I also measured the exhaust and its a straight 3" the whole way. So I dont think that was causing the low boost.

Here you can see where the exhaust was leaking out the side where the studs are bad. Ill be fixing that tomorrow.

There was oil, at least I think its oil, in both sides of the intake side of the turbo. Is this normal or is somthing causing this? Overall how does the turbo look?

Little bit of oil in the intake is no surprise. Doesn't look bad. I beleive it is crank case blow by that Subaru routes back into the intake...

It looks fine except for the broken stud. I assume it spins freely.

IMO, the turbo doesn't look bad. That oil is most likely blowby that gets into the intake from the valve and/or crank breathers that vent back to the turbob inlet hose. If the turbo were leaking oil it would end up in front of the compression blades.

Also, your downpipe looks like ass. I don't know why it's welded like that... looks like a crappy repair job, or just a low quailty home-made piece.

Yeah the DP isnt a name brand at all, some shop made this exhaust from scratch. The welds are not the best looking but they dont leak so its not a big deal.

Just finished putting my car back together. I installed my gutted stock uppipe, the gruppe-s y-pipe intercooler hose kit, all new gaskets, and a new sti pitch stop mount because the one that was on there before was broken in half. The car runs like a freaking top now. Boost is restored, and the sky cleared as I stood back and said "it is good"

Sounds badass too!

Thumbs up

turbo looks good....small but good..... I would run a catch can if i were you... all that blow by has moisture as well as oil in it and goes thru your turbo-intercooler-manifold-motor that all = no good...

Yeah, it looks like the job my friend and I did on my old Legacy's exhaust after I jumped a bear with it...
