When it smokes is it just a puff of smoke that comes out, or does it smoke for awhile?

Sounds like he's got hippies in his oil pan. Dem hippies is *always* smoking out!

...um, could be oil leaking on the headers and burning? What kinda car, and how old is it? He should check his coolant, if there's oil in it he might have a bad head gasket, and that could be leaking oil. Or the oil pan might have a bad seal and oil's leaking there...

Could it possibly be a cat going bad?

I'd bet a smoking cat would blow its smoke out the tailpipe... if I read correctly, the smoke is coming out from under the car... not out the exhaust...

...so yeah, where exactly is the smoke coming from?
